I've also heard the Hammer on the Ticket claim that Houston was desperately trying to get to 100.
For those making this claim, I want you to tell me what happened in the last minute of the game. I know the truth because I was there, but I'm wondering if any of you know.

I think most people on this board are more focused on the first 59 minutes. I for one don't advocate that UH should have scrapped its offense, but it sure would have been a show of true sportsmanship to adjust its routes in the second half. The failure to do so showed a lack of sportsmanship.

look [deleted] this might not be the best place fcr a Houston fan to come on here and start an argument about what cool guys Jack Pardee and Jenkins are. They are scum and have been appropriately ridiculed every since with just about any one with any sense of fair play. There were plenty of us that remember EXACTLY what went on the ENTIRE game because we sat thru every second.

Then tell me what happened in the last minute. If you want to say UH ran it up, I can't argue against that. If you want to argue that UH really wanted to score 100, tell me what happened at the end.

I can imagine what happened.
But all that means is: even THEY just couldn't do it. They simply changed their mind about getting 100 at the last minute so they could claim to be sports.

[quote="Pony4Life"]I was there, and he did not sit the entire second half. I don't remember if he made into the fourth, but he played at least the majority of the third quarter.

From the Houston Chronicle 10/23/89...
Gregg noted Pardee pulled quarterback Andre Ware after a six-touchdown, 517-yard first-half passing performance "or they could easily have scored 100 or whatever they liked."

Anyone have the Houston Chronicle write-up about Cougar High's 1992 game vs. SMU?
I'll also never forget Jerry Glanville saying, after beating his former team the Oilers and Jack Pardee, "that game ball's for those kids at SMU..."

After a 30+ yard running play (yes running play, not passing), UH was inside SMU's 20 with a minute to go & multiple timeouts. Despite the yells for 100 from the fans (including me as a student at the time), Pardee had the QB take a knee for the next 2 plays, running out the clock. Two draw plays probably would have scored that 100.
If Leech would have coached that UH team, I'd bet on 150 points scored that night. Jenkins was a run it up coach as he showed against E Washington when he was head coach. If Jenkins was head coach that year, 150 was possible. But that was not Pardee.
We threw bombs in the 2nd half, but your coach was stubborn enough to have his players crowd the line. As was mentioned, that caused the normal run & shoot long routes. If the DBs were deep, it would have been hand offs the rest of the night. & who would you have wanted to rush the ball, Chuck Weatherspoon who averaged 9.6 yards per carry that season or his backup Kimble Anders who would move on to play in the NFL the next 10 years & become a 3 time Pro-Bowl player?
Yes SMU was playing a bunch of freshman, but why? Because they got the death penalty because of their actions. If anyone in CUSA wants to complain about UH running it up (& they do), it's the Tulsa fans from that 100 point game. UH did intentionally run it up that game.

And that sentence speaks volumes about you and the rest of the UofH student body and fans, at that time. One word: classless.

If the opprtunity ever presents itself, I will gladly urge SMU to score 100 points against the Coogs.

Mabey UofH did take a knee, and mabey not. I was at that game, and I don't remember them taking a knee. I do remember them throwing towards the endzone, with less than a minute to go though.

That's right, I'm supposed to have sympathy for the cheatingest team in football history when there is the possibility to break a scoring record. Next time your basketball team is slaughtering some sisters of the poor team, tell me how many of your fans will be chanting for that 100 points? & I'm sure you're all going to sympathize with Baylor's basketball team in the games they get slaughtered. After all, they've cleaned up their program. I personally hope Baylor loses every game this season.
How many of SMU's fans have called our players [deleted] historically? I've personally witnessed it at games. How many of you classy fans are calling UH "Cougar High" on this website? Not to mention the entire thread on this board "UofH Fan Site". All classy.
I'm not here to talk smack. I just like to talk football including history. I'm happy to talk about the payback game (although I wasn't there for that one) as much as the original blowout. I like playing someone that we have a history with. Hopefully we'll have some interesting games in the future that we can all discuss too.
I'm amazed at how much college football has changed since then. If that game happened today, UH would have been blasted if they only won by 2-3 TDs. They would have a big jump in the polls for that win today. I don't know if UH was ahead of its time with that or if the change in system now forces teams to blow out other teams & show no mercy. What Leech does at TT is almost ignored or its praised.
