Well, CaballoSnob (snicker), apparently YOU have firsthand knowledge that he was a cheater who took a car from A&M, and it therefore follows from your firsthand knowledge that he must have gotten a better offer here. But for evidence, try these:
https://goomer.ncaa.org/wdbctx/LSDBi/LSDBi.MajorInfPackage.ProcessMultipleBylaws?p_Multiple=0&p_PK=408&p_Button=View+Public+Report&p_TextTerms=ThisIsADummyPhraseThatWillNotBeDuplicated&p_TextTerms2=ThisIsADummyPhraseThatWillNotBeDuplicated&p_Division=
and
https://goomer.ncaa.org/wdbctx/LSDBi/LSDBi.MajorInfPackage.ProcessMultipleBylaws?p_Multiple=0&p_PK=353&p_Button=View+Public+Report&p_TextTerms=ThisIsADummyPhraseThatWillNotBeDuplicated&p_TextTerms2=ThisIsADummyPhraseThatWillNotBeDuplicated&p_Division=
You state that it is "obvious" that "other players" did it because of probation, even though none of them were "listed" as "beneficiaries of illegal inducements." It is equally obvious that Dickerson was as much involved in these transgressions as your unnamed "other players." Better yet, why don't you show me where Dickerson, with his new Trans Am, was exonerated?? Even better yet, just shut the F up anyway?

jtsnobstang, your attempt at evidence directly pointing to ED in his recruitment is severely lacking. While the transgressions that led to the probation of 1981 would have occurred around the time ED was being recruited, there is nothing concrete to say that he was one of the offenders. Of course, he was probably the one the coach played racketball with which was considered a "tryout" and he could have been one of the recruits that received a complimentary picture on his recruiting trip. As for the Trans Am, your evidence does not show that we were placed on probation for giving a car as an illegal inducement. That points to exoneration for the Trans Am. ED told the NCAA who gave it to him. It was considered a gift since he did not sign with A&M.
The death penalty was applied for recruiting violations after Dickerson graduated. Others did participate in accepting illegal inducements to attend SMU. Albert Reese is the player who received the apartment and other inducements. He was a TE from Temple, Texas. Good player, but definitely not worth the results.

Caballosnobstang (double snicker)- You are an ignorant fool, plain and simple. The death penalty was given in large part because of the pattern of abuse evidenced by the several successive probations given to SMU, including during your hero's time on the Hilltop. I didn't link to the major infraction report of the death penalty, but even your rudimentary computer skills should allow you to find it on NCAA.org.
You are further hampered in your analysis by your second grade reading comprehension level. Nowhere did I say or imply we gave him a car. I merely acknowledged your firsthand information that he cheated by accepting the car from A&M and the logical conclusion that SMU gave him a better deal to get him here.
Now this part is going to get complicated for you, so do your best to follow along. Perhaps drawing some pictures will help, so you may want to find your crayons. In you prior post, you said, ignorantly:
I am tired of all these people pointing the finger at ED or anyone else when they have no idea whether he accepted any inducements to come to SMU. Obviously other players did because we were put on probation for their transgressions.
Now see if you can follow why you are such an idiot. In the first sentence you say you are tired of people blaming your hero or anyone else without knowledge that they actually did something wrong. In the second sentence, YOU DO TO "OTHER PLAYERS" JUST WHAT YOU JUST CONDEMNED BEING DONE TO DICKERSON "OR ANYONE ELSE" IN THE PRECEDING SENTENCE!!!!!!.
In other words, now try to follow, you "point the finger" at "other players" with "no idea whether they accepted any inducements to come to SMU." As you noted, "there is nothing concrete to say" in the NCAA reports that these "other players" were offenders either, but you blame them anyway. You also do nothing to dispel the probability that Dickerson was one of the "other players" that you yourself blame for these probations.
I hope that wasn't too taxing for you, you may want to lie down for a while. But whatever you do, kindly shut the F up because I, and I suspect others, do not wish to suffer your foolishness further.

Yeah, sure. We did it, we got caught, and we paid the price. Right.
But what is completely wrong and unfair, (and I will never forget it), is that SINCE WE GOT THE DEATH PENALTY, OVER 20 OVER SCHOOLS HAVE MET THE REQUIREMENTS AND WEREN'T GIVEN IT.
So, yeah, we DO still have a beef. It was an UNPRECEDENTED penalty and it will NEVER be used again. [/i]
