Plano - you are just wrong on this one. We need a winnning season no matter who it is against - nobody but a few even know the difference -
After a couple of yrs of winning against weak competition, we can start scheduling better competition, because we will have a story to sell to recruits, and the team gets better - that is assuming we continue to get rid of whatever policies are still around that keep us non-competitive, which I still have not seen any outline in detail. If it is one thing that has been proven by the last ten yrs of SMU football - scheduling big 12 teams to start the season 0-4 every yr does not do anything for us. 3-1 aganst cheap teams will help us start to build our own fan base back again. I say bring on the sisters of the blind.
the problem with playing BOTH Texas State and Sam Houston State is that we only get credit (in terms of bowl eligibility) for one win against a I-AA opponent. It sure would be nice to see SMU go 8-4 next year and then play TCU in the Ft Worth Bowl.
A 6-6 or 7-5 season would not be deserving of any bowl and of course next year's home schedule will leave SMU challenged to generate an average attendance of 15,000
They will start showing up if they have a winning record. PLus Sam Houston will bring three times as many as Tulane anyway - maybe 750?
NTSU will bring a bunch just cause they can't stand us, and they want a chance to see a college stadium/campus. Gimmie cheap, tawdry wins baby.
http://www.jhowell.net/cf/scores/Sked2006.htm This says we play Arkansas State, UNT and Texas Tech. So does THIS SITE. Perhaps you have heard of it.
Well sh*t...I said I think it is...obviously I screwed up. So shoot me. That schedule doesn't mention either of the 1-aa teams and if Im' not wrong yet again, aren't there suppose to be 12 games in 2006? Who else are we playing OOC?? And exactly where on this site, http://smufootballblog.blogspot.com/ , does it talk about the 2006 season?
This is what I found using the search function for 2006 schedule:
http://smufootballblog.blogspot.com/2005/06/scheduling-101.html Class of '91
I'm not sure what the big to-do is about. Bennett is a Snyder protege. It (weaker schedule) worked for Kansas State. Yes, they're in a tougher conference, but the general philosophy is the same. As best I recall, it worked for Ron Meyer as well. Grambling, UTA, and NTSU ring a bell.
Texas Tech's OOC schedule for the next few years is:
2006 9-2 SMU 9-9 @ UTEP 9-16 @ TCU 2007 9-1 SMU 9-8 UTEP 9-15 @ Rice 2008 8-30 Tulsa 9-13 @ SMU 2009 9-5 @ Tulsa 9-12 Rice 9-19 SMU 2010 9-4 @ SMU 9-18 TCU
Tee hee. ![]()
That's entirely too verbose...a simple listing would be nice. ![]()
Hi everyone.
I have many wonderful memories of SMU Football growing up with both parents having graduated from SMU. I was in the stands for many great games and many not so great. I however went to Texas State and am a huge Bobcat fan. The last I heard negotiations were on going to play SMU at Ford in 2007. I thought I might respond to a couple of the posts since it appears many aren't familiar with Texas State or it's football program. While it is true the program has been down in the past that is no longer the case. This season we could have probably beaten you, who knows what will happen in 2007 however. If you compare the A&M games which is our only common opponent this year you will see that we would give you a real run for your money. Second I noticed a couple of folks mentioned who travels well to attend games. The scary thing is our home attenence isn't too much worse than yours and our stadium is less than half the size. We also travel well to in-state D-1 games. This year's A&M game was an exception because of the change in game day and time and the storm coming but we easily matched the 750 someone talked about earlier. Last year at Baylor we were close to filling our allotment which was somewhere around two to three thousand (not sure what three sections of their stadium holds) To wrap up this book just let me say that in my opinion SMU has the most beautiful campus in the state and Ford is probably the finest football facility I have seen in a long long time. I really look forward to making the trip there in 2007 if all works out and I will be bringing my Mom if her health holds up to see her Mustangs go against my Bobcats. Sorry to horn in on your board. *edit* Forgot to mention one thing, although our loyalties are different I think we can all agree that the Longhorns Suck, Nuff Said
Texas State vs. Texas A&M: L 44-31
SMU vs. Texas A&M: L 66-8 I would be very concerned about playing a AA school if I were you. especially one in the Southland Conference. Texas State CAN beat you, even without Barrick Nealy, (such will be the case in '07) and I'd put money on Sam Houston beating you too.
