Personally, I think Bennett gets one more year, but begrudgingly. My reasons are really diverse. First, except for Texas A&M and to a lesser degree Tulane, we have been in every game this year. We beat TCU which Cavan failed at doing. We did not have any upperclass quarterbacks with a down of experience when Bennett arrived, and none of the ones we had were Division I calibre. I am not sure that we would get a name coach to come here for two reasons. Name coaches go to Mid-major schools if they are trying for some swan song. Bobby Ross at Army for example or if they are damaged goods (O'Leary at UCF, Price at UTEP). We can't hire damaged goods at SMU due to the death penalty. That leaves old retreads. If you're going to try and get an up and comer, that's what everyone believed that Rossley was, Cavan was, and Bennett was and probably could be. We should just stay the course with Bennett for one more year. But next year with all the pillow fight games on the schedule, he needs to be 4-0 non-conference (if Tech is not on the schedule), and then at least 4-4 in conference if not 5-3. 8-4 or 9-3 gets you to a bowl game.
