My Dad graduated in 1950, and attended SMU his last 2 years of college after being a Navy WWII pilot. I remember going to the 1963 SMU 14 Arkansas 7 game (my first college game) where we wore RED jerseys and grey pants for uniforms like the last SMU SWC champs at that time from the late 40s. My next SMU game we traveled to from Longview was the 65 SMU vs. the top 10 Arkansas game. Big 60000 crowd at the Cotton Bowl. We scored a field goal for 3 - 0 on our first drive, and I was pumped. We were wearing BLUE jerseys, and red helmets. We didn't do anything the rest of the way, and lost 24 - 3. I distinctly remember asking my Dad why we were wearing BLUE jerseys. He said during the Doak Walker, and Kyle Rote years they switched back and forth from red to blue. How do you KNOW my Dad is a liar ![]() P.S. Every time I edited my previous posts it just posted it as another reply ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Luckily, someone finally realized how putrid royal blue really looked... and replaced it with navy blue. Good move.
