Please tell me how they can call themselves National Champions on the HS level. These past two years, they didn't even play out of State. Do they have a trophy calling themselves National Champions? Have they faced every other team outside of Texas? Sorry I just hate when High Schools call themselves National Champions when... 1) They have never played out of State (SLC) 2) They only have the media calling them that (SLC) And don't say because they have the longest winning streak in the nation because that belongs to Independence of North Carolina with a 92 game winning streak, 2nd best ever streak only to an 151 game one by DLS of Cali.
Sounds like someone is a bit jealous. Quit trying to bring them down.
They're the national champions because a few national polls say they are. Sure, its mythical, but so are championships at the college level. Did USC beat every team in D-1 last year? No, they beat 12 out of 117. Were they the national champs? Yes. Do you have to agree with it? No.
You're not going to have some sort of high school playoffs where all the different state champs play each other and one is left in the end. It would take another ten games to do that. But the poll will always exist. And yes, I bet they do get some sort of trophy for it from USA Today and whoever else has a poll.

Jealous? No. I've seen them this year and clearly they were the best in the State of Texas. I have no reason to be jealous of them. Why should I bring them down. They won their State Title. Thats all they should be happy with.
USC winning the National Champion is the only they can. It is a State Championship in a way.
College is National. High School is State. Thats why I don't like it.
My team has been on National Television just like Southlake Carroll. I didn't agree with it then, and I don't agree with it now.

There are high schools in every state just like there are colleges in every state. High Schools in Arkansas occasionally play schools in other states (Tennessee, Oklahoma, Mississippi) just like the colleges do. The only real difference is that High Schools do not have a national playoff like Div 1A...........whoops.

Would I hire Todd Dodge as head coach at SMU? Maybe. It depends on what other candidates are available. However, I think he would be an excellent Offensive Coordinator, and bringing him in at that level might be the best.

Haven't we learned our lesson about untested D1 coaches? I don't know what'll happen to Bennett guys, but whenever he leaves the Hilltop, the university needs to be ready to sign a big name, big money HC that will take our program to the next level.

There is no such thing as a high school national champion. What a load of crap.
Why not world champions?
After all is there anyplace in the entire world where 17-18 year olds play the game of football better than Carroll?
SOUTHLAKE CARROLL
2005 HIGH SCHOOL WORLD CHAMPIONS!!

Maybe, someday, L'view can play in the Lousiana State Play-offs & get 'em a another title. Longview- next year's Champs (sound familiar?)
In the meantime SLC is the best in TX.

what more can he prove-not only have they won 2 straight National Championships-they've only lost 1 game in Class 5A since moving up. I believe they are at least 60-1 during that period. The only game they lost? They lost by 1 point to Katy on the last play of the Texas State Championship when I believe they missed a FG or something. Its ridiculous not to give them and their coach the respect they deserve. Rice would be lucky to get him.

Longview was already named Louisiana State Champion thank you very much.
And in the meantime. Go back and read, as I already said SLC was the best in Texas no question. I just don't think they're the best team in the country, not to mention please tell me how you can prove they're the best team in the country with this so called National Championship.
Edit: BTW I'll be the first one to say that SLC will win State once again. Even thinking about getting Dodge is stupid right now. He isn't leaving until his son his out of high school, which I don't blame him. Perfect job for him. Money...Winning...Stay close to home.

We''ll agree on 1 thing-- you can't 'prove' it.
Just like the horse [deleted] that is, "BCS".
BUT... SLC does own TX HS FB

Uh, no...that would be Highland Park High School.
And I would put the Scots up against SLC or any other HS football team in Texas right now.
Since you brought up high school coaches going to the 'next level', what about HP's AD & head football coach Randy Allen?

Not to take anything away from Coach Dodge, but he has total control of a footbal program that begins in elementary school and culminates with the final two years of the SLC players' HS career. He hires the coaches - at all levels. There is no question about where those 6th graders are headed and what system or fundamentals they learn before those two years. There is no question about Fresh and Soph kids being unhappy about not playing right away.
There is also no question the guy can coach. But, he'll never, ever have the control he has at SLC. And, unless it's a major college head coaching job, I doubt anyone can match his overall package at SLC.
Long live Thomas Sowell!

Any guesses on what he makes at SLC? I would assume a package of $120K a year at the most. I believe Randy Allen at HP makes more and was listed a few years ago as the highest paid in nation and that was when he was pulling down $100K.
A salary for a good Offensive Coordinator will cost you $250-350K. Not sure if SMU would ever pay that but he might be a bargain for head coach. We are the saving every penny on our football staff ctoday ompared to the other D-1 schools in Texas. We are not in need of a HC right now but if the situation presents itself in the next couple of years then Dodge would be a good fit at the right price.

In a story by Kevin Blackistone of the DMN on Feb. 23, 2005, it was stated that Randy Allen makes $102,732 with a $15,000 coaching stipend.
