I thought it would be The University of Texas El Paso in Ft. Worth.

That was kindof what I was thinking...but apparently not, so live and learn. ![]()
I was confused by the title of this thread...overrated? Last time I checked, UTEP was not in the rankings. They had a nice season. Just ended poorly, as have their last several years.
I hope CUSA can pull some upsets in our remaining games because it's looking like we are just confirming what most already suspected...CUSA is weak. Meanwhile, SMU has ended the past two seasons on a positive note but the question remains: "can we improve on this year?" (referring to FINALLY a Sept win...over TCU no less). Spring ball should be interesting to see how the rebuilt defense will look against a new QB
Well, UTEP was ranked 25th during the 12th week and was in the "others receiving votes" category several times... Anyway, like you said, I think SMU can, and will, improve in the coming years. Honestly, as a true, purple-bled, Frog fan (and I do dislike SMU with all my Christian heart), I think SMU, a team that beat Houston,, UTEP,, and TCU (and several other close, good, games), might have faired well in a bowl game this year, compared to some of the other competition in the bowls today.
Now, most of us will agree that the TCU game is a fluke--I am one of them. But, that's college football at its best, and I'm not complaining. Things happen, that's that. However, they did defeat TCU, thus, they gained a little credibility. TCU will be attending the Houston Bowl, and, the team that beat a 10-1 team, in my opinion, deserves a bowl. Anyway, watch us in the Houston Bowl on December 31, 2005 at 1 P.M against Big IV's Iowa State! Cheers, and, Go Frogs! Go Frogs! Pony Up!
This, grammatically, would be positively atrocious. It could be one of a few ways: La Universidad de Tejas en el Paso La Universidad de Tejas del Paso La Universidad del Paso de Tejas I'm sure that I'm missing one, but all of them are correct. From a university's standpoint, I would assume they chose one, uniform way of saying it, that also keeps as close to UTEP as possible. I say this due to the vast majority of hispanics, latinos, and mexicans that attend the university or simply just live in the area. Rock AND Roll
I would not say the the TCU game was a fluke. It was an important game for us and they may have been a bit overconfident. But, BYU got pounded by a mediocre Cal team. Navy slaughtered Colorado State. Clearly the MWC was not a power house conference this year. Neither was CUSA, as shown by the fact that UTEP whom we beat got whupped by a decent Toledo team (MAC champion) making its second consecutive bowl appearance. We were one win (and a couple of bad breaks/calls) away from being bowl eligible ourselves. We only got slaughtered by the Aggies and even then played them tough for a half before heat and lack of personnel dpeth wore us down. I think TCU will beat Iowa State because Iowa State will not take the game seriously. I would love TCU to end up 11-1 because that 1 will stick in their craws for years and years.
The Juarez newspaper covers the Miners like their hometown team...that's one reason for it. Anyway, I have to agree with EastStang---TCU came into the game against us overconfident, thinking we would roll over just like last year. But it wasn't a fluke game. EastStang---Toledo is not the MAC champion, Akron is. And they play Memphis in the Motor City Bowl...another CUSA-MAC showdown.
Alright already, so I screwed up. I was watching some of the BYU game last night at a bar with no sound on the TV for the game. They put up some stats on the screen that showed MWC 2-1 followed by C-USA 3-1 (or 2) (don't remember which) and then some other conferences such as Pac10, etc. with what appeared to be their records...and I'm thinking they are talking bowl games...obviously we haven't had that many bowl games this year yet. So now I don't know what they were talking about unless it was last year's bowl games. The bottom line is...just ignor what I said.
I know what you were referring to as I saw it as well during the Cal-BYU game. They were showing the records for the conferences last year and the MWC,by virtue of a 2-1 record, had the highest winning percentage of any of the conferences with the C-USA coming in next at 3-2.
In a league where the talent level is such, and FIVE bowls are available........... if we can't get to a bowl with our schedule next year, we should shut it down boy's! But I do expect to be in a bowl next year!
