THE POINT: The starting point is the committment to a Model that must be put in place to allow SMU to compete on an equal level with its natural and traditional rivals. That commitment has not been made and that Model is not yet in place. Right now Phil Bennett is looking at about his 15th choice at QB because the Model will not allow him to compete with teams that have been or are on recent schedules. When that huge obstacle is obliterated is when the criticism will stop. This JC QB situation illuminates just how uncommitted SMU is.

Come on Stallion What's wrong with the model? We've won 38 games since 1995.

Don't forget we won a National Championship in 1935. What about the Heisman Trophy in 1948. Why fix something that isn't broken

At least we are all starting to come to grips with the concept that our "natural and traditional" rivals no longer consist of UT, TAMU, and Tech, but are now Baylor, TCU, Tulsa, Tulane, Rice and the like. We do need to compete for recruits with these rivals, but let's also face the fact those recruits are of a lesser caliber than sought by UT, TAMU, OU, etc.

That is the truth though...our rivals should be TCU, Tulsa, Tulane, Rice. Why beat ourselves up about not competing against school with 7 times our enrollment? There is a tiered system in D1A and it is a facet of the BCS system. So why not embrace it and move on. We will not win the national championship and let me let you in on a secret neither will TCU or any other school outside the BCS system. Take a look at Utah if you want proof of that. The fact is we recruit a different level of athlete and that is fine as long as we keep it on par with our true "rivals" and not cry about losing them out to UT, A&M or TT for that matter. Baylor would be included but they suck and thus don't deserve our respect!
