I am sure there are more ut alums in Dallas. A big part of the complaint with the DMN is, nobody knows we are even playing.

I know at least a dozen guys that have dropped that rag because of their increasing liberal bias!

As stated before, I think the DMN's poor coverage of SMU football is symptomatic of a crappy newspaper. They miss tons of local stories, and just run A.P. on all other stories. While this helps their bottom line in the short term, their circulation is declining.
I just think we should receive equal coverage. Of course, the only reason the DMN gets away with all of the coverage is the evil Red River Shootout. With this game, UT can sell itself as the team of Dallas and take all of the best players southbound on 35.

The DMN coverage of SMU basketball is horrible. Or should I say the lack of coverage.

The real question is "how is TCU's coverage in the star telegram?" They are winning, do they get covered? I'm sure the UT/ATM to TCU ratio is the same as it is in Dallas to SMU.

Actually, the Star-Telegram does a better job of covering SMU athletics than the DMN does, IMHO. Peruna_Ate_My_Rolex wrote:LonghornFan68 wrote: I'd be willing to bet there are more UT grads in Dallas than SMU grads.

I swear...I think every other person who lives in Dallas is a U.T. alum or a U.T. fan. Just count all the Longhorn/U.T. flags that are flying in front of their houses...especially in the Park Cities!

MM1965, I don't care how many UT alums live in Dallas. That is not the point. If they live in Dallas and are football fans, then they could easily attend the games. I think there is a large market of those folks. Because the DMN fails to cover the games, those kind of folks don't show up. I attend college football games where I live, and I didn't go the state U.

I can't wait until the Bushes move back to the Park Cities. I bet Laura flies the biggest SMU flag in the neighborhood!
I think that after SMU secures the Bush Library, the next big push will be for the family to become more active in university life. I'm sure that'll bring out a lot more HP/UP people.
On the same note, maybe W can issue an executive order requiring actual coverage of SMU events in the local paper (DMN).
Just my two cents.

McClown27: Despite what you and some other posters may think, I am not MM1965. He's a dork.
I think you missed the point of my post, though. I was just making a comment about the number of U.T. flags that can be seen throughout Dallas right now which - in turn - indicates how many U.T. alums and fans live here. It would make me GD'd happy to see every SMU alum/fan who lives in the Dallas area fly an SMU flag, too...but I doubt we'll ever see that happen.
But to equate SMU's low attendance with a lack of coverage by the DMN is just plain ridiculous. Please face the facts: U.T. fans (for the most part) don't attend SMU games because they don't care about SMU and never will. They've got a huge school in Austin that they'll support with their money and attendance. If you think a Dallas area Longhorn fan is going to come to an SMU game just to support the 'local team', you're sadly mistaken.

I've been to 5 SMU game in the last 3 seasons... including the TCU game during the 0-fer season. I even traveled to Baylor and aTm to watch them play. But I guess you're right.

whose bias were you referring to, the paper's or the guys you know?
p.s. did they ever print a correction for referring to us as the frogs before the UTEP game?
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

You have got to be kidding. I'm not saying Karl Marx writes for the paper or anything, but there is no way that paper is on average any farther right than the center.

I guess we'll agree that it's fairly moderate, but it's more conservative than many.
More importantly, I have seen no correction or retraction on the SMU/frogs thing.

Well, my brother is a Baylor alum and goes to all of SMU's games. He has small children and would prefer not to have to drive to their games. There are also people like MM1965, that want to follow the local team and are not alums. With more media coverage, more of these types would show up at Ford.
