My point about Tech is that if SMU had started the year say vs UNT then had a few home games, once their offense had started to get some chemistry with a new quarterback I think an upset over Texas Tech would seem plausible....but starting the year versus Tech in Lubbock, I don't think SMU has a chance to win or play a close game...I only hope losing to Tech doesn't discourage the Stangs in their games following Tech...

SMU has played TECH very close the past few years, I believe BY PLAYING early in the season BEFORE TECH has a chance to GEL.

I'd rather play them in Game1 than Game4, and also I'd rather have a returning QB to do it as well...but the past two games v. TECH we had new QBs.

Indeed Stal, that's what I was remembering. I think what he meant was the last time we played Tech we played them pretty close. But we were at home, and they still won.

I dunno', but I'll be surprised if we beat them... I'd rather play the other three teams first, and then play Tech at Ford... but that's just me.

We have played them relatively close in the games we had at Ford, but Lubbock has been a disaster for us.

I think everyone would rather play Tech at Ford whether it was the first or fourth game.

Personally, if we have to play there, I would prefer to play first before their offense gets rolling, their new QB is gelled in with that offense and giving Bennett 200+ days to come up with a defensive strategy.

Besides, their throwing offense takes time to get the timing down. Our offense of running all game out of throwing sets is a little easier to get ready.

sounds like my experience in College Station last year. I think the cannon when off three more times during my hike from the stadium to my car.

yeah talking about a lost generation of fans. I've got my son all excited about going on roadtrips in recent years to Lubbock and College Station to see some big time Texas college football. He's seen about 126 points worth of cannon shots. Maybe I can interest him in a road game to Tulane where you can't fire cannons in the Superdome, which btw is now scheduled to be ready for football in September.

I think we have a chance to atleast keep it close. I don't think it'll be as big of a blow out as it was back in 03.

I do think we'll be 3-1 heading into conference play. Whether we're going to a bowl or not I don't know. I think we still but personally I think if we go to one we'll either go to the FW Bowl or Houston Bowl. I rather go to the FW Bowl than any other bowl to be honest, knowing that we would get a good size crowd there.

Would you RATHER play them in Game 4 in Lubbock? That is the question you failed to answer

Yes. Here's my reasoning. If we even become bowl eligible, the bowls are going to pounce on us for three reasons.

1) Program history. SMU was once one of the strongest programs in the nation. It's been the alma mater of Doak Walker, to this day the most recognized running back in history.
2) Cinderella story. "Back from the Death Penalty." Media outlets will capitalize on it.
3) DeMyron Martin. He will be the running back story of next year. Mark my words.

As for the Tech game, I'd much rather play them Week 1 in Lubbock than Week 4 (even at Ford) because the more time you give that offense to come together, the better they are. You don't have to worry about their defense--just run right up the middle and they won't stop you.

I disagree about the bowl scenario. Even if we win 7 games next year, I believe our lack of fan support will doom us. We would have to go a minimum of 8-4 to get a bid, and that's not even a sure thing, IMO.

Thats why I think if we were to go to a bowl and become bowl eligible, the Fort Worth Bowl would be our best place to atleast start in our first bowl back.

yeah, it sure didn't help rice a few years ago, when they went 8-4 and got left in the cold. Luckily the bowl situation is a little better in CUSA than it was in the WAC.
