Friar, why would you think the column had anything to do with race? I don't see that at all. I think it was a matter of lots of SMU fans complaining (whining in the DMNs view) about coverage lately combined with Turner complaining aloud about it at the press conference. Blackistone took it and turned it on us in an effort to put SMU in its place. Its really as simple as that I think, not some deep seeded issue.

Behind the scenes dude, not in public. Maybe you are right though, an apology would be a fat waste of time, the damage has been done and can't be reversed. That column is a self-contained masterpiece by an independent third party (on the surface at least) spelling out why not to go to SMU. It doesnt matter if there are glowing stories for a week, the one that will end up in the hands of recruits is this one. I agree with the guy who said high school kids dont read the papers, but coaches do, recruiters do and thats all it takes.

Hoop, if you have read Blackistone over the years, almost 100% of his columns have some kind of racial bias slant to them to some degree. Regarding SMU, his articles almost always paints us as the rich, bigoted, superior acting school that is rascist in our policies. This particular article is surprisingly free of his typical rant but still negative in nature. I just get tired of him reporting everything through his rascism tinted glasses. This from a guy who very much has benefitted professionally due to the color of his skin - as evidenced by his failure in the harder venue of news reporting and getting a second chance in the sports section.

Look, I don't think Turner should apologize to anyone. He was right to tell the press that we are in Dallas, UT was not. Blackistone can rant all he wants and every other team and the world can post copies of it on their websites. If TCU wants to use it fine, just post the score of our last contest with them. 21-10. Blackistone spoke the truth about our attendance and support. He basically called us out, and he was right. We don't support richard, and until we do, we can't expect richard from the DMN. So instead of saying Turner was off base and Blackistone was off-base why don't you prove KB wrong by showing up to games. Its easy, just go.

This is true....I agree completely that he is a "one trick pony." Almost all of his articles are racially based, and I am tired of reading it. I haven't read anything good from him since.....well.....I'm still thinking

If you've seen Mr. Blackistone on some of the National/ESPN programs lately then you understand he'd like to be invited to join Lupika, Saunders, Albom, Ryan, et al on some of those programs regularly. How do you do that? By peeing on someone's leg, of course. And, what better and more convenient leg than that of SMU? These guys aren't journalists. They're whores wanting to get the network bucks. Good news stories ain't news. And they don't make careers, no matter how factual.

Do not get mad at the DMN for SMU's failures. Get mad at the Board of Directors for SMU's failures. SMU dug its own grave with twenty years of incompetence and ineptitude regarding athletics. SMU is to blame not the DMN.

I was there. Turner was asked why Dallas did not embrace SMU. He gave two good points (including that we are not the only show in town and at least 2 pro sports compete with us during every season.)

Then he added "And you and your colleagues don't cover us like you ought to."

Not all that inflammatory.
