If I remember correctly, the Ticket has done remotes from the Boulevard in the past, but I think it has been a couple of years since they did one (maybe 2003 or 2004 season was the last time).

I do agree with you that we should be reaching out and aggressively selling ourselves to media outlets such as the Ticket instead of sitting back and hoping that local media will notice us.

That said, usually when you have a new hire that is a great opportunity to build some momentum. Hopefully Orsini will take advantage of the opportunity.

the TCU game is I believe the game I remember but Corby went to TCU and so did Williams-that's why they was there. And I might add that he talked about the Boulevard scene for weeks afterward. Sell the Boulevard. And then Sell it again. It has not been done the way I know Russ Potts or Brad Thomas would have worked that angle. I( hope the new SMU AD doesn't think like some of you that perpetuatly blame the media for SMU's problems-because it simply is not the cause.

It was definitely the TCU game. Hammer wore a TCU shirt for the broadcast. We have hired Rich Phillips for both football and basketball. The Ticket looks down their nose at us and with their attitude nothing we could do to "engage" with them will change that. They don't talk college unless it is Texas OU weekend. That is just how they operate, and it is working for them. I am not blaming the Ticket or the DMN for our problems, but we get no respect from either outlet. With some success that might change, but I doubt it. Having an "engaged" AD will help on all fronts.

sure, I forgive you, but i won't forget. :P Think about this though...would an AD of Orsini's apparent caliber take the job if there was something serious to the investigation??? I highly doubt it.

The comment was about our media coverage, and not the reality of the situation.

No because we are too afraid to attempt to engage the personalities on the ticket because they might say something that might enrage an old fart. We ain't cool. Hell they'd do a remote from LeRoy's Fried Chicken and even Stan's BlueNote but nobody at SMU has the Balls to engage the Ticket. Instead, we [deleted].

OOOOHHHHH HOOO HHOOOO.. Stallion you stepped right in my trap...

The ticket has been on campus several times over the past five years for tailgating on the boulevard..

They were even here last year when we beat TCU.. Greggo and Corby were there.. When i worked promotions at the ticket i did several games on the boulevard...
I love it when you are DEAD WRONG

If its been done-its been done WRONG and/or POORLY by amateurs. I've named at least 3 great opportunities-TicketFest, The SMU Athletic Forum where the BAD Radio always does a remote and a promoted pregame remote celebration. It would be best during opening week against a quality opponent-bill it as the The College Football Debut Celebration during Labor Day Weekend-put up a Tent right smack dab in the middle of the Boulevard, invite bands, put up big screen TVs where numerous College Games are playing, pay for the TicketChicks to attend and dress thenm in special red and blue Cheerleading/SMU T-Shirts, have an SMU Sorority Beauty Pageant, invite SMU and other local celebrities to come and celebrate the opening of College Football. Broaden the scope of SMU. Do something-do anything.

You missed my point hooper. I was making a funny regarding him being investigated for "recruiting" - not for recruiting violations.

I don't think the basketball violations thing would sway him one way or the other - if it was something serious in the football program - then that would be another thing. He's a football guy.

my fault and it would be funny if it wasnt true. Tubbs is probably being investigated for what amounts to 'recruiting', ie common decency, ie what everybody else does.

Anyway, I disagree, no AD wants to come into to serious violations even if it is basketball and not football.

All those guys at the ticket fall in line behind Rhyner - and he is not a SMU fan. He is the one that said SMU was going to have the nicest Div II football stadium when we came to the realization that football at SMU was dead.

What pisses me off is we pay that station to carry football games and look what it gets us in terms of coverage.........
