If true.... then that is too funny.

Sounds like it's close:
http://www.texasmonthly.com/ranch/readme/handsign.html

or

During her transport from Houston to Austin, one of the fingers on Shasta's paw was severed when the cage door was closed. As the University of Texas partisans and players caught wind of the accident, they mimicked the animal by bending their thumb over the ring finger against their palm. This gesture implied that the Cougars were invalids. The Cougars would go on to lose the game 28-7.

The cougar faithful, still mindful of the stinging defeat suffered 15 years earlier, never forgot the taunting that they received. The next time the two teams faced off (1968... a whole 15 years later), UH tied UT 20-20. At that point, the students thought there might be a bit of magic in that sign, and the hand sign was adopted replacing the "V".

In 1976, the Cougars first football season in the Southwest Conference, the Coogs & Horns met for the third time ever. The Coogs put a beating on the Longhorns that they have yet to forget 30-0 (a.k.a.the "Dad's Day Massacre") in front of the largest crowd to assemble in Memorial Stadium at that time. That victory ended the Longhorns famed winning streak, and the embarrassment also signaled the end of legendary UT Coach Darryl K. Royal's career. After that victory, the Cougar Hand Sign became firmly entrenched.

Do we not play Tulsa next season? I notice the predictions do not include the Tulsa game.

Yes we do play Tulsa, they are in the CUSA West with SMU. Tulsa should be a contender again next year. They have 7 offensive, and 9 defensive players returning.

What I like to do is look at the end of year Sagarin ratings and see what this year's results would be, taking home field into consideration. Here is how it looks if all teams are the same:

@TxTch L by 23
@UNT W by 14.5
SHSU W by 20
Ark St W by 10.5
@ Tulane W by 8
@ UTEP L by 3
Marshall W by 6.5
@ ECU L by 1.5
UAB W by 3.5
UH W by 1.5
Tulsa L by 7.5
@ Rice W by 9

That is 8 - 4

Note that includes a W and L by 1.5 and a total of 4 games within 3.5 so a lot of variability not including who gets better and who does not.

So the range can very easily go from 6-6 to 10-2 (plus post season!)

8)
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!!

Mills overrated? The guy is simply awesome. Did you see him against OU? He also beat us like a drum for 3 TDs in Tulsa three years ago-each one was a backbreaker. He not very tall-not very fast but he deserves everything he gets. He's a damn good no great college TE.

because they are going to beat the hell out of us. There is no way in hell SMU's CBs are going to be able to stop their WRs.

Best hope is for Rogers, Muse & Haywood to get to the QB 1st.

Also, run the ball with Fitzgerald & DeMyron 40 times between the two of them.

Just wondering Stal, will you be wearing Red & Blue or Red & Black on September 2?

It's black and blue on 9/2

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Apr 18, 2006 3:42 pm

Tech will take no prisoners on 9/2. The score may be very embarassing. As for the rest of the season, Rice had a coaching change - so that game is a mystery. Marshall is no gimme. Pardon my dose of realism, but a
6-6 season is very likely with an inexperienced QB and a coach who is yet to produce a winning team.
