as has been pointed out numerous times on this board, I am not a graduate of SMU. :( But I love the school and its football & basketball teams. (It is right and true to support the local school!) And, yes...I do bowl from time-to-time.

I just heard from a writer/editor friend in the Bay area who said he has not heard or seen Nnabuife's name associated with the Raiders.
Of course, if it's one of those weekend tryouts, he might not be mentioned in a team press release or anything....

Yeah, but where I bowl is redneck heaven. None of this upscale stuff there. We're talking about stiffling cigarette smoke, tattoos on almost every man and woman.

abezontar, myself, and a couple other fellers sometimes hit that place up on Tuesday nights too. Can't beat $1 bowling with bad music playing over the PA.

The story is now up on SMUMustangs.com:

Four Mustangs To Get NFL Try-Outs
Nnabuife Signs With Raiders

Nnabuife Signs With Raiders

May 5, 2006

DALLAS (SMU) - Four former Mustangs will get NFL try-outs this weekend, teams announced this week. Leading the former SMU standouts will be linebacker/defensive back Alvin Nnabuife, who has signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders open their three-day mini-camp on Friday.

Linebacker D.D. Lee and kicker Chris McMurtray were signed to try out with the Dallas Cowboys during this weekend's mini-camp. They will join the eight players drafted and other try-out signees at Valley Ranch for meetings and practices May 5-7. The first practice will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 5.

Defensive back Rolando Humphrey will be trying out for the Cowboys' chief rival, the Washington Redskins. Humphrey will be one of more than 90 rookies and first-year players at Redskins Park this weekend for a three-day Rookie Camp. Most players arrived Thursday afternoon to undergo a physical and take part in an orientation. The first practice starts Friday at 11 a.m.

Check back on SMUMustangs.com for more updates on these players and the latest news on any additional signings.
