Not necessarily. The winner goes to Memphis, then Mobile, Hawaii, Ft. Worth and New Orleans get to pick from the other available teams. Last year we also had a spot in Detroit because the Big Ten came up short, but we can't count on that happening any more if 6-6 is good enough to go bowling.

CUSA actually looks very good for bowl games...We have 5 tie ins next year with a possibillity of filling spots in other bowls if needed. The Liberty Bowl is interesting as well because the SEC teams have the right to refuse to play in state rivals....(such as Tennessee and Memphis, Auburn/Alabama and UAB, Florida and UCF....). This could play to our favor since we have no conflict and could get a matchup against an SEC team ahead of one of those schools if the cards fell right.....

If the Houston Bowl is renewed, that could be a 6th bowl and every other year, we get a spot in Hawaii (this year it is the WAC's turn). So in 2007 there is a real possibility of 7 bowl tie ins.

Unless they are changing for next year, we still have a spot in Hawaii. It has been a CUSA vs WAC matchup since it started a few years ago.

Well, I vote for memphis. Obviously this is easier said than done, but this allows us entry into a city we hang out at, and a decent game. I am booking my room at the peabody as we speak.

Going forward, the PAC-10 weasled their way into this bowl. A PAC-10 member will play every year and the WAC and CUSA will alternate....WAC in 2006 and 2008....CUSA in 2007 and 2009. Actually not a bad deal, since CUSA will get to play a BCS school every other year instead of a crappy WAC team every year.

As far as my dream bowl outcome goes....Obviously a BCS Bowl would be at the top! After that, the Libery Bowl as CUSA champions would be pretty sweet.

However, if either of those two don't happen, how great would it be to play the froggies in the Ft. Worth Bowl? That would be about as good as it gets, especially since we don't play them in regular season this year....Aamon Carter would be rocking.

Imagine the media coverage and the revenge factor for the Frogs, too. Call it 'The Iron Skillet Bowl' and have Jimmy Dean's Sausage sponsor it. ;)

Here's what the commentators/sportswriters will say, if it happens:

"SMU is playing in its first bowl game since returning from the death penalty. The Mustangs prevented TCU from having an undefeated season in 2005 with a 21-10 win over the Frogs one week after they (TCU) humiliated OU in Norman."

21-10. But at this point TCU should be down because they are playing in their own bowl.

Thanks for catching my typo. ;) It's now changed in the original post.

i think there should be a proposal to have the bottom two teams each year have a bowl game... this way there will be no more disputing who really is the worst team in division 1.... but if you're not a big fan of one bowl determining who is the worst they could put in a playoff system... this would involve taking the bottom 16 teams in a single elimination tournament where only losing teams move on to the next round... so whoever lost every game in the tournament would be crowned "The Worst Team in Division 1"
