I would think after the assualt charges he was never convicted of and this 5 pounds of reefer inceident he wouldn't be in college football anymore. We will have to see what happens. You know he will have the best of the best when it comes to legal representation, thats for sure.

This isn't just UT either. Why is it so many programs are looking more and more like the NBAs Portland Jailblazers these days?

Are they still using the "I was walking down the street and found the drugs in a paper bag story?" When I went to a welcome to the Bar class 20+ years ago, a DC judge said, and don't raise the "I found it in a paper bag defense, or the two beer defense, because even if its true, no judge will believe it anymore!"

What baffles me is that he left the party/fight after the back window of his Tahoe was broken. He then called the police and gave them the authority to search his car (due to the broken window). Why would anyone KNOWINGLY call the cops and let them search the car if they had 5 lbs of weed in it??????

His lawyer said that the pot wasn't his. That is no doubt the reason that he let the police search his car.

That's the only thing that confuses me as well. Unless he's just incredibly dense, it's entirely possible he did not know the weed was in there. Of course, that's making excuses again, so I'll chaulk this one up to complete and utter mental ineptitude. Oh well. We'll have to tap the talent coffers again this season.

Uh ... high/drunk people do that sort of thing, don't they? I'm surprised everyone thinks that definitely means he must surely be innocent.

Does anyone think he really had a choice at that point but to agree to a search?

Cliff Robinson.
Second violation in less than a year for a guy who's like 100 years old (late 30s, I think -- maybe even 40).

Ricky Williams
Cedric Benson
Selvin Young
Ramonce Taylor

Maybe it's a running back thing, not an overall Longhorn thing.

I'm fairly certain you don't have to let them search your vehicle. I could be wrong though. It'd be a first...

Having received my leagal degree from "Cops", I think if you refuse the search they will then call for the canine car to have a drug sniffing dog come out. If the dog hits there is reasonable cause and they can proceed with the search. OK lawyers, have at it.

If your car is broken into, before you call the Cops, you should search your own car to make sure that a friend didn't accidentally leave a doobie in the car or 5 lbs of grass or 10 grams of crack, or a case of untaxed liquor. If you find it, you don't call the cops, you throw out the grass before you drive home, vacuum out the car on the way home, and call the cops in the morning saying you wanted to file a police report, your window was smashed. Of course if he was really smart he'd use the Marion Berry defense with a slight modification, the Aggies set me up.

I'm not saying its right, because its not, but if any of you are under the impression that our football team is "weed-free" you're sorely mistaken.

Young kids smoke weed. Its so stupid with everything they've got on the line, but they do. I'm almost more forgiving if someone gets caught doing crack. With them there's chance they're just addicted. With weed, they just make the same dumb choice over and over just for kicks.

When you've got 100 18-23 year old kids, many who come from tough backgrounds, there's going to be some drug use.

You just have to hope they're not dumb enough to get caught with five pounds of it in their car.

I hate to tell you, but if I'm the coach and a player gets caught with weed in his car, his scholarship is gone. My guess is that the other players on the team would decide smoking pot just isn't worth it. And I'd tell the other players, if they want to follow him out the door, I'll sign the releases. Guess what, it would probably help recruiting because parents would be more inclined to send their kids to play for a coach who takes that attitude than a coach who has a bunch of dope smoking thugs on the team. And yes, when I was at SMU there were several guys on the team who knew the north end of a bong.
