How about 5'9, and runs a 5.2, and weighs 130lbs?

Such a typical response on this board, and why so many of you have such little credibility.

Stallion questions the 4.38 time and gets ridiculed, not just on this thread but on others.

Here are the QBs who ran 4.38 or better at this years' NFL Combine in Indianapolis...ONE....Reggie McNeal...a true freak of nature who hardly flew under the recruiting radar screen.

Here are the RBs at that combine that ran 4.38 or better.....NONE.

Who DID run a 4.38 at that combine???....Sinorice Moss, WR from Miami.

SMU will be fine at QB. Willis can get the job done and Slater has a big time arm. He is a true sleeper that will end up being a very good one.

Slater has a big time arm?????????? I was very unimpressed with his arm in the spring game. i hope that you are right about Slater being a sleeper, but i did not see it this spring.

Slater..

Postby DrewDawg265 » Sun Jun 25, 2006 12:05 am

Just someone who has worked QB camps throughout the northwest and was very impressed with his ability. I thought he was a guy that didn't get the big time college attention he deserved out of high school because of his size and athletic ability. I may be wrong but to be honest I have not been wrong on a local high school prospect yet. I expect Slater to end up starting at SMU this year.

with Phil Bennett as Coach that's a damn good possibility. Has there been an SMU QB on the roster in the last 5 years who didn't start at SMU? As for Slater not getting a "good look" he played on one of the most prominent teams in the area Right? He was first team All-State Right? He won lots of games and put up big numbers. He didn't get overlooked he didn't get a lot of attention because he was short and slow. Most Division 1A Coaches outside of Highland Park look for tall and fast.

Stallion, If you saw the short film clip on SMU Football right after signing day in Feb. showing Rhodes scambling for about a 35 yard TD last year right up the middle, there is no way the guy is that slow. He left everyone on the field standing still.

I always get confused by:
Priest Holmes, from San Antonio
Santonio Holmes, Pittsburgh wideout
San Antonio Holmes, a High School

Stallion,

He was not first team All-State. Jake Locker was as a junior. Jake Locker is the number one QB propspect on the West Coast for the class of 06. Slater did play a Bellevue team that did break the 151 game win streak of DLS. I believe Slater had huge games against Bellevue two years in a row through the air. He also threw for 26 TD's and 4 INT's for the season on a pretty explosive offense. We will just have to wait and see what happens. On another note, why do you feel like Bennett has not been a good coach at SMU? Where was the program when he took it over? From my limited knowledge of the program it seems to me that he has been pretty successful.[/quote]

Stallion will probably not answer you, DrewDawg. He ignores people who ask sincere questions that he feels do not need an answer because one can find it in the 6000+ posts he has put up. He has quite the body of literature on this board. Generally, though, he is more content with a) engaging in the occasional parry-riposte with a handful of people who think he is a blowhard; b) stating facts that he digs up; or c) pontificating about the university and alums not being truly committed to playing with our "traditional and natural rivals".

When he took over, the program was better than 0-12. In 2003, he was 0-12.

The program was not much better than 0-12...it was sliding downhill rapidly in that direction when he took over jt and you know it. Given the constraints on recruiting and the lousy reputation of the program, it was not going to reverse direction overnight. It pretty much had to bottom out before it could reverse direction...which it has.
