Great article, but why would Bennett be talking on and on about Stafford with his QB's the night before a game?

I have always said that facilities are only necessary when a program is properly equipped to compete. With our basketball attendance, media coverage, & recruiting restrictions, I just don't think a facility will help recruiting at all. I have never doubted that the facility will come in handy for the logistical needs that Blog points out.

Please email Coach D and let him know that a new facility will not help recruiting. He is under a terrible misconception that it will.

cadillac, good point about willis returning to Denton. Usually we are on the other side of that with all the dallas players who come home to face smu.

I think it's funny that two of the biggest talkers on PF are making fun of another poster for not knowing what he's talking about.
Just my two cents.

I will after you email Coach Cavan about his misconceptions about Ford Stadium helping football recruiting. I would guess he would agree with my position, that SMU ain't gonna see big recruiting gains from the facility.

McClown just can't seem to get through his numb skull that the program would not even be around to b-tch about had Ford not been built. Clown, have you ever thought what recruiting would look like if we were still in the Cotton Bowl?? Honestly, I think you should leave this forum for a while and gather your thoughts. Your act is wearing awful thin.

Blah. Blah. Blah. The DMN writes a very positive article on SMU and our starting QB and all we can muster here is "Blah. Blah. Blah."

Folks - this is the kind of piece to get us excited for the season. And heck it piques the average readers interest. Look we need to have more of these articles - but we should be talking about how nice it was to have this article in the DMN. I liked the slant too - talking about a recently highly touted quarterback only to show that our QB outplayed him in those games.

I was excited to read it. I hope you guys were too... now the only complaining that I feel *might* be warranted, would be a simple - "let's hope they profile more players in the near future."

I got an email today from a non-SMU Dallas based buddy, saying he might have to go check out SMU to see this kid. Let's hope there are more articles.

And that we beat Texas Tech.

When he took the job, Coach Bennett was even quoted as being quite shocked at the low talent level of the team.

Quite simply, until we recruit on a level playing field, these facilities upgrades are opium for the alumni masses.

To answer some of my critics I will briefly explain my facility position. AM I against facility upgrades? No, not on principle. This offseason, George Mason also decided to build a practice facility. The major diffence between our schools is that the profile of that team will allow them to compete with big-time programs in the mid-Atlantic region. They decided to build a program before they built a facility. That way, when they build these facilities, they will be full and also attract recruits. SMU seems to think it will makeup for its restrictive academic requirements by building these facilities. It does not seem to work.

I honestly believe that the George Mason practice facility will help their recruiting. I think our practice facility will have the same impact on recruiting as TCU--also a program with a Carolina system coach with ties to Coach Williams.

I did not say the recruiting was good. I said it help recruiting. The alternative would have had us consider dropping to a lesser division.
