Uh-Oh... QB Controversy

This is the forum for talk about SMU Football

Stallion decided about two years ago that Bennett couldn’t coach. Of course, he can never say, “Phil Bennett should be fired.”, because he knows there are about 50 people on this board that will give him hell for it because he said that SMU has no business firing coaches because you cannot fairly evaluate a coach’s ability because of the model. He said this exact same thing about 1,000 times.

Of course, Stallion also can’t acknowledge that his buddy Mike Cavan didn’t manage the QB position worth a darn, either. Or any other position for that matter. Bennett should be criticized because he didn’t play Martin against Baylor. Never mind that Cavan couldn’t even remember ShanDerrick Charles’ name until after the San Jose State game, and Charles only saw significant time in that game because Kincaid had a concussion.

Instead, Stallion just gets more and more bitter and stares longingly from afar at other schools' new coaches. Take for instance the now legendary Todd Graham. Stallion is watching this year’s Rice football season like a five-year old staring at his Christmas presents under the tree just waiting to be unwrapped.

Some people call this guy Winchester. I am telling you, he ain't Winchester. He is Frank Freakin' Burns.

Stallion just loves to play the role of contrarion because he feeds off debating other people. In a way, he's nothing but a bully who should be confronted and put down. Nobody likes a bully.

While some of his recruiting knowledge is solid and worthwhile to read, it's his motives in which he delivers his message that causes him to lose credibility among the masses.

It's one thing to criticize your program. We should because we want only the best for it. It's another to be a total [deleted]. Stallion falls into the latter, so let's all congratulate him on reaching this status.

The good news is that no matter what happens our TE rotation is sure to get shored up a little.

It must be August when perrenial dumbasses become geniuses each and every year no matter how many times they've been wrong before. Beware the Ides of October when its annually demonstrated how little so many really know about college football. What was it 95% predicted SMU is going to a bowl game?

It's real simple. It's not that Stallion doesn't like Willis or Slater. He thinks Willis is too green and too short, and Slater shouldn't be in Div-1A. He preferred Phillips, and when Phillips got benched, he a) didn't buy the rotator-cuff story; b) thinks that Phillips was the best QB out there; and c) Bennett must be out of his ever-lovin' mind to platoon QBs, especially the two that Stallion thinks either aren't ready or shouldn't be at SMU.

It's his opinion. Results will either support it or no. Don't see the point in dancing about it any longer. I suspect that despite the blow to his ego, if either Willis or Slater does well, he, like all of us, will be fine with them doing well.

And you can always count on jtstang to immediately jump in and change the topic whenever Stallion is mentioned.

Does on-the-mark criticism of him make you uncomfortable, buddy?

Gee, Stallion. Great comeback. Got anything else? Beware of the Ides of October.

Your story has become tiresome.

So you are predicting they are not going to a bowl? I just want to be clear. Or has rivals not said yet?

As for me, I haven't said. Last year, I predicted four wins, but said I wouldn't be surprised by five wins; two years ago, I predicted three wins. Those predictions turned out pretty good.

I know that there is a history here (with revolving QBs that is) but I agree with Mr. Pony. ESPECIALLY in light of the part where Willis is said to "not be where he was in the spring." I think that the implication is clear, that Willis will be the Starter if he gets back to where he was, and this threat is simply motivation to get him there this week, and not next.

At least that's what my optimistic pollyanna sense tells me. Then again, it also told me that Ryan Leaf was going to put it all together in 2000. So I'm probably not the best judge :)

Wow, unbridled optimism for the home team. How horrible. There should be floggings for this.

Not at all, "buddy". I was just being humorous. Sorry you didn't get it, but I understand why.

Get what? My point is that you change the subject immediately every time Stallion is accurately criticized. How is that funny?

Do you all hate each other in real life, or is it just the board?
Seems like it takes a lot of energy to be this bent out of shape, especially about stuff over which we have little to no control.
