The bowl is now sponsored by Bell Hellicopter in Hurst and thus, the name change to the Armed Forces Bowl. Here's their new web site. http://www.armedforcesbowl.com/
With a military theme to the bowl and with them discounting lots of tickets to active military personnel I would expect to see an F16 flyby or at the very least a parachute jump or something kinda cool anyway.

We'll need 7-8 wins for a bowl.

Thank goodness we don't need that many wins to get daily coverage in the paper.

Personally, I would not like to face that other team in that particular bowl game. Maybe I am reaching, but I am hoping for something more. then again, a bowl game is a bowl game . . . lets just win baby!!!

7-8 wins???? why is that? 6 makes you bowl eligible, not guaranteed a bowl with 6, but i do not think 8 will be required

It isn't like we travel well. Bowls need to sell tickets to make money.

Neither did that other school from that other city back in '98 when they went out to California and beat up on the Trojans . . . but they were 6-5!!

Bowls also like media attention. I still contend that if we get to 6 wins, some bowl someplace will extend a bid.

That game was played in El Paso, not CA.

Yeah, sorry about that geographical sanfu, but not the point I was trying to get across. All I am saying is 6 wins gives us the chance. I know in 97 when we reached 6-4 the bowls were there watching when that other school beat us and they decided we were not worthy of a bowl bid (understandably) but I hope things will be different this time around. But who are we kidding, it is nice to even mention the word "bowl" around dallas area!

going .500 makes us bowl eligible BUT CUSA only has a certain amount of Bowl BIDs to hand out to the teams that finish in best order from 1st to 4th or 5th i think.
if SMU just wins 6 games, they would have to receive an at large birth if there are 4 or 5 other team ahead of SMU in conference play.
They chances of us getting an at large bid are slim but to be safe, it is best for SMU to win 7 or 8.
There were 5 teams last year that I know of that won enough games to be bowl eligible but did not play in a bowl game.

yeah, 6 bowl eligible teams last year, UCF, HOUSTON, TULSA, MEPHIS, S. MISS., UTEP. 4 of those went to bowls I know (UTEP, TULSA,UCF,HOUSTON) did memphis or S. MISS make a bowl? I do see your point about needing be high in the conf. standings, but if Houston can do it . . . so can we . . . right?
