All professors (and maybe all staff) get two free tickets to all sporting events. I go as often as I can -- using my wife's tickets -- and buy a couple extra if I need them plus concessions. When SMU does well, it raises the stature of my wife's workplace and potentially where my kids will go to school and that's a good thing.
I think Rice is the world's leader at giving away free tickets. I called SMU for some donated tickets to TCU and Rice games a couple years ago for a United Way campaign at work at they obliged. They went for about $15 each and raised over $200 for UW and provided some publicity for SMU football.
