Dallas county alcohol laws make it a hassel to get alcohol anywhere, much less a college football game. I think someone high up in the SMU football program would have to really want this to happen in order for it to get pushed through.

Yep,

We are a bit sheltered here because of the fact that we are a religious facility, located near the buckle of the bible belt, and our stadium is in UP. Many things against us.

Most schools outside of the bible belt sell alcohol at their games. Obviously, alcohol sales would increase attendance and revenue but it will never happen, UP would fight it tooth and nail and SMU would never seriously push for something that the city would be against.

During the post death penalty/cotton bowl years you could buy beer from the city vendors outside and then carry it back in. It was great, they had vendors by every exit and you could pop down, buy a cold one and be back in your seat in about 2 minutes.

Probably the best we could ever hope for at Ford is a BYOB policy, much like on the boulevard.

UP has strict liquor laws.. hints why there are no liquor stores on hillcrest and the tom thumb in snider plaza doesn't sell beer.. However HP is not as strict..

Is the stadium technically in HP or UP?

I have heard that 1st floor of the press box (season ticket holders, but not private suites) can not sell or distribute liquor. Apparently they can only serve beer and wine.

I recommend vodka in a water bottle. It doesn't look all that bad if you get caught, and it mixes quite nicely with a refreshing sprite.

I say to heck with UP. If we want to create our own Private Club at SMU then we can do that. UP can fight it all it wants but if we really wanted to sell beer then we could find a way to do it.

The only school that I know of that sells beer at the game is Fresno. I know because they tend to throw it on the players out there. I would hope that in time the fans will come, we shouldn't have to stoop down to white trash tactics to get them to the games.

Tulane also sells hard liquor at the games, hence why I do not remember the second half.

You need to get out more then  . Just kidding...but there are countless schools besides Fresno that sells beer at games. Hell, in C-USA alone, Houston sells beer down at Robertson Stadium and Tulane (a university similar to our own) sells beer at the Superdome, I believe there are more, but I know from first hand experience of these two.

And I hardly see it as white trash tactics, it is a good business decision, puts more butts in the seats and increases revenue. Plus, remember, our glass enclosed Alumni Gods sip on import beer and fine wine while eating cheese leaving us less fortunate fans to put a flask of vodka down our pants 8) .

Those schools already had fans coming to the games. I would rather have our fan base built on the team rather than coaxing students in who will only leave after the third quarter(last call).

So would everybody but we've shown an inability to accomplish that, so booze may be the next best option (if not the best regardless).

At least we could see double and that would almost sell us out right there.

I dropped in to the 7/11 on Mockingbird before the UAB Game
and the clerk said they didn't sell beer there anymore because SMU
bought the property for the new Bush Library. That 7/11 was always
a great last pit stop before games and I am going to miss it!
