Nobody's condemning anybody, we're just playing the "what if" game like everybody else on this board.

What if Bennett finishes the year witha six game winning streak? He still lost to N. Texas State.

I'll admit that is problematic, but you can't fire an 8-4 coach at SMU no matter how much you want to.

any analysis of Bennett's job performance right now is premature. Let him have his shot.

If that were to parlayed into 9-4 and then 10-4 I would then, perhaps be able to forgive and forget NTSU. (This is not a statement on keep or let go, but rather my disappointment with the NTSU outcome.)

Hayden Fry axed after a 7-4 season, which included W's over Ark./Baylor/TCU.

He only took SMU from the Bottom 10 under Meek to 3 bowls in his last 7 years-he had to go!!!!!!!!! Really one of the stupiest decisions in SMU History. I always thought recruiting the No. 1 RB in the country in Wayne Morris raised the expectations of SMU fans to where they were disappointed in 7-4 and played a role in his dismissal.

Fry was not fired for his record. The firing was without any doubt the best thing that ever happened to him. It was also, for reasons I will not elaborate on this board, the best thing for SMU. SMU's problems came about due to subsequent hires, not the firing. Believe me or not, but I was there. It was a situation that would have killed Hayden had he stayed. I love him like a father I am am very happy that he was able to get away and move on to the greatness he so deserved, but his time at SMU was over.

Agreed.
"It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."

the problem with losing to North Texas is that we would be bowl eligible already!! And also after that horrible game against NT he made sure to put the blame everywhere but on himself. He lost alot of respect from players and fans a good coach should always take the blame!!!

PB had the playbook closed for UNT. He then opened it up for SHSU and AS. Since then it has been closed or only semi-open, but mainly it has fallen on Willis to create something out of nothing given the plays called. Bennett plays not to lose. The best coach in the Big 12 or perhaps the country, Stoops, plays to win. He was masteful in the win over A&M. I have harped on this for years. If Bennett forces the team to go back into its shell against the Coogs we are toast. Willis can only do so much to overcome lack of intelligent/inventive play calling.

And if Willis had decided to take the high ground and not get into trouble, then SMU probably would have won the UTEP game.

Except for the undefeated teams everyone else has some sort of excuse for why they lost.

In my opinion it is still Bowl game or bust of PB. PB had a quality team at the start of this year and Orsini knew that coming into Dallas. Sure PB has gotten better since the 0-12 year we had but this year is suppose to be THE year SMU gets over the hump and into a bowl. I see Orsini pulling the plug and bringing in a guy like John L. Smith or someone who has won before and taken a team to a bowl.
