Part of making such a promotion of a player is to market the team and generate interest in the community. If any rational case can be made that would be a good thing.

Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
If we run the table we will definitely see some hype building; if we lay an egg forget about it. Just going 6-6 and squeaking into the FW bowl would greatly help give us credibility.
Personally I think our best shot at a win is Tulsa. We could beat UH but it is not a given. They run hot and cold. If Kolb torches us we are in for a long afternoon. We can't dink our way down the field and stay with them. A lot of teams are going to the 3-3-5 to stop the spread and similar Os. That will probably be the future for a lot of teams, maybe even the one in UP.
Given our graduation of numerous DL players that may be a definite option for us but what will we do vs. running teams? ![]() Go Ponies!!

Yes, Ws do matter in the heisman race but it is all about national exposure and getting national press from every sports network. Look at a guy like Garrett Wolfe. He was putting up out of the ordinary rushing stats and was highly talked about getting the nod to go to NYC. The Heisman is all about the most exciting player to watch, NOT neccesarily the best player. Look at some of the great busts of past: Crouch, Gino, Ware, Rozier, and Wuerfful...those guys where fun to watch and had outstanding Heisman years but of course had little to no success in the pros. The greatest Heisman ever is Archie Griffin, the only person with 2 in his trophy case. He had no impact in the NFL.
Willis will get the Heisman hype if he keeps playing like this for the next 2 years. UNT did a heisman thing for "booger" and I think it was Kolb who had a huge poster of him put up in Times Square this year for his campaign, Joey Harrington did that as well. As for non BCS teams with great players, look up guys named LT, Faulk, and Wolfe. So expect to see www.JustinWillis4Heisman.com in 2 years.
The Heisman has nothing to do with projected or eventual pro potential. It has everything to with on field production in college. All the guys you listed had great college seasons and all went to high profile schools who were in the midst of succesfull seasons.
Yes but I never said it was about projected or eventual pro ability. The heisman is all about flashiness and making games fun to watch. The reason why Bush beat out VY last year was because of the Fresno game when Bush pulled the 'reverse n stop' move that was show on almost every station in the world. It goes to the more fun player to watch. The Maxwell goes to the best player. That's why Jason White won the Heisman that year and Leinhart won the Maxwell. 2 Years from now willis will have a campaign and I hope SMU will use it as a marketing tool for people to start putting SMU in their minds again as a football powerhouse.
this is the dumbest post ive ever seen. If you really think Willis is a heisman contender ur CRAZY!!! I think they will be a really good team in the next 2 or 3 years with the combo of Willis and Mapps but Willis a contender hahahahahahahah now thats funny!!!
so is colt brennan from hawaii & kevin kolb from houston (as was on espn cold pizza).... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/heisman06/index look at some of the guys on here... willis has 3 more years... It's CRAZY to rule him out of one day being a contender

I don't think any of us said he would be a contender. We were all just saying that he mite have a campaign going to promote and market SMU football. Did anyone think AD was a contender his freshman year before he ever took a handoff??? What about LT, no one said he was a contender....They are called "Heisman HOPEFULS" because it is an open race until novemeber.
