Btw, have the Mustangs beat a team with a wining record this year?

I hope Orsini has a list of coaching candidates ready, at least the cupboard won't be completely bare when and if a new coach comes to take over.

We'll be lucky to get to 6, though we do have 2 chances.

The NTSU loss was Bennett's downfall.

Say what you want to about Phil Bennett, our schemes, etc. but at least we're playing meaningful games in November. That hasn't happened but a handful of times since the Death Penalty. I'm not a Bennett apologist, but this is a young team, with good talent, that's got a chance to go to a bowl. Bennett's got a lot to do with that. I remember 1997 when we had Dan Freiburger as our QB and a team that almost went to a bowl at 6-5. That was a heck of a lot of fun, but then we went back down hill. With last year's strong finish and the way this year's season's going I think we're building to something even better, and are not just one year wonders. Why in the world would you want to "Phire Bennett" when he's building a program? Why start all over again with someone else, who may or may not be able to do any better? We had over 20,000 people in attendance at Saturday's game, that's outstanding for us. We've got to keep it relative, our success should be measured not by contending for a national championship, but by being competitive in our conference and making it to bowls consistently, and I think we're on our way towards achieving that.

Ramon Flanagan/Chris Sanders were the QBs on the 6-5 team. Frieburger may have been in the announcers booth.

My bad. I was thinking of the '92 season when the Ponies and Freiburger went 5-6 including beating Houston 41-16 avenging the 95-21 beating SMU took at the hands of Andre Ware in 1989 after their first year back from the death penalty. Still great times that year as well as the '97 season. Hopefully we can string together consecutive years of positive memories instead of just a couple every five years or so.

I see us taking a step back (on our record) next year, regardless if Bennett stays. If Bennett does go, it will start the rebuilding cycle all over again. If Bennett stays, it will finally be his last year.

I'm betting that Rice finishes the regular season at 7-5. That is with losses to UCLA, Florida State and Texas on their record. They also only play 5 home games this year.

If you saw how bad Rice was last year you would not believe this years' record possible. And, they completely changed their offensive philosophy from a running team to a passing team. This was accomplished with basically the same players.

Now that is coaching.
