When you're competing on that level there are going to be cycles and he as well as Bowden are in a down cycle. Doesn't mean they are bad coaches. Bowden will be given time to ride out the bad wave and Coaker wasn't. Coaker could win at SMU.

Not to be a [deleted], but he might be offended you're misspelling his name. It's C-O-K-E-R. I'll leave the dot, dot, dot off like everyone of Pony Snob's posts.

Poor play calling and ridiculously soft defensive coverage killed us. Everyone knew that 81 Dillard was getting the ball yet we left our corners in man coverage all day long and we got killed by that. Clock management was horrible as well. Sitting in the parking lot at Rice is a lonely feeling and I am really pissed.

As for coaching options, there are many. Todd Dodge is a name that everyone mentions and you have to remember he is twice the coach that Todd Graham is. I like Graham but Dodge is in a league of his own. Coker is not a bad hire either. Jeff Bower at Southern Mississippi is a good hire as well. I can promise you that Orsini will have the money to make this change and hire someone that can take the next step.

I agree. What's interesting to me is what happens if ECU loses tonight and we get a bowl bid to NO Bowl (or whatever)? Does that save his job? Even though we backed in? As many others have said, I see us going backwards next year under PB with a tougher schedule and many seniors gone.

If ECU loses, the more likely scenario in SMU's favor...Rice to NO (Houston being closeby), leaving Fort Worth to decide b/w:

SMU at 6-6
ECU at 6-5 (at NCState - who lost by less than 7 to Clemson, Wake, UVa, GaTech, Mary)
and maybe
UTEP at 5-6 (vs. Memphis - who lost in 2/OT to Hou last week)
Marshall at 5-6 (at 7-4 S.Miss)

Also, doesn't the scenario exist that ECU wins the EAST (by S.Miss losing today) and loses the Champ game, thus is 6-7 and is left OUT of a bowl?

My question of him is simply that he has been out of coaching for a while, and second, that HS kids won't know him from Phil Bennett...
Where was CW a college head coach?

Do not call for a change until a replacement is identified, and it is determined that the replacement is an improvement.

I'm aching as much as anyone over today's game, but I would not rush to make a coaching change. Slower than anticipated, to be sure, but this staff has us improving. Anyone who doesn't see that has a personal grudge or dislike for the current coaching staff. That's fine, but if you replace him with one of us on this board, Coach Bennett looks like Vince Lombardi. Replace him with Vince Lombardi, and Coach Bennett looks like one of us. That's all I'm saying -- be careful what you wish for.

Couldn't agree more. We need to upgrade whether that be the coordinators, assistants, or head coach. Change for the sake of change is just wasting valuable resources and time. At the same time doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results is insanity.

Time for the change that was just a matter of time. The team deserves better.

Idiotic play calling. Game after game. Season after season. Way to loyal to what has proven to be a weak staff. Recruiting that hasn't measured up. And, as I have heard, staff has been working so [deleted] game prep that there has been very little recruiting effort over the past 4 weeks.

I can only imagine that today makes Orsini's decision a little easier.

What is this we crap. Last I check you were not suiting up on the sideline, how about what these seniors deserve. I would hope that everyone on this board would want that for these guys. They have worked hard and deserve a post season game.

Not sure I agree that they deserve a bowl game, but I am definitely rooting for an ECU loss and an invite to New Orleans or FW. The team and the school NEED a bowl berth more than they deserve one. I will be there if we get one.

I have read PF for months without replying but after reading this thread some of you don't have a clue. What if PB is fired and then who do you hire? Last I checked it wasn't any Matt Doherty type of coaches just laying around. If Orsini does decide to make a change its no doubt the new coach will win in his first year. I won't have anything to do with his coaching ability but the foundation that PB has started. Give PB some respect. I am in fully agreement that some change needs to be made but I don't think its at the top.
