He's the coach at Southlake Carroll High School. Very successful.
He is also a former starting QB for UT.
I left that out because I wanted to say only positive things about him.

Cavan was the starter at Georgia. I don't want a HS coach. I want a college coach. If there isn't a coach we can bring in that is an immediate upgrade, then we have to keep PB.

Why the [deleted] would you want to hire Dogde. A HS coach??? are you [deleted] me...
Bush Library, Womens Golf...DELETE THREAD!!!....NOW
hire the names of COKER and BOWDEN to attract athletes here...not a [deleted] highschool coach.

Nothing personal, but we lost to 2 former HS coaches in Kolb and Graham. Graham had as much college experience as Todd Dodge before taking the Rice job and Kolb had none before taking the Houston job. Todd Dodge is a huge name in Texas HS and college football. He has even been given serious consideration by the Dallas Cowboys. The one thing that Dodge gives you is instant credibilty with every kid in the state of Texas. They all know exactly who he is and they all know that if you play him you lose. If you want to recruit the DFW market he can fill the team with the top talent in the area. Don't sell him short and also don't just call him a HS coach. The guy has more skins on the wall than PB when he was hired.

I won't argue with anyone about Dodge being a good hire. My 2 questions would be
1) If you were him, would you leave the number 1 HS team in the state for SMU. Honestly, would that really be considered a vertical move, or a horizontal one? Hell, SLC is playing in front of bigger crowds than we are right now.
2) I'm not sure that he is the type of guy Orsini is looking for in a head coach. There are many very succesful/respected BB HS coaches in the area, but he wanted the established big time college name.
I could be completely wrong, but if a decision is to be made, the earlier the better, so the new guy can get on the recruiting wagon yesterday.

okay, he is not just a "HS coach" he is a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP HS coach....
but when it comes down to getting people to sign this spring is our tag line going to be "we hired a HS coach who has led a team to state, so therefore, he must be a winner on the college level"???

If we did hire Dodge he could probably have a better recruiting class the first year than Bennet has had his entire tenure.....

So what was Graham's claim or Kolb's claim? Graham's claim is hey look I have Major Applewhite as my OC. He was Chris Simm's relief pitcher. Dodge has instant cred with every HS skill player in the state. He can list off all the kids he has gotten D1 scholarships too and he can even bring in his own kid and Nate Newton's sone as well in a couple of years. If I am a receiver in the state of Texas this guy is someone I can trust.
Also, he only makes $120K at SLC. Phil makes about $500K. I can't imagine where we can't get him in here with a "How would you like to make a half million a year, have 2 new cars every 12 months, and have a nice new house in HP paid for? Plus we will throw in some really sweet bonus money if you can get us to a bowl game."

Not to be picky but Kolb is the QB. Briles is the coach but the point is the same.

Thanks for the correction. Forgot that his son was a receiver and not the QB.

Yes, Todd Graham, who at one point in time coached HS< but made his name as an assistant coach at West Virginia and then was an assistant at Tulsa. He has paid his dues as an assistant at the college ranks.
