C'mon BigMomma, you're arguing with yourself.

Rice is playing with the same SAT guys as we are.

They have never endured the death penalty either!! We are and always will be a special progaram from that day on. We need someone who is willing to committ themselves to 10 -15 years of restructuring this program. Do not make this into a resume paradise for wayward coaches. The basketball team will not even compete in CUSA for at least 2-3 years. They have no players and will not for a while. Nobody in this part of the country gives a [deleted] about Dougherty!! He was a wayward coach who could not even stay at his on alma mata?? The players he can recruit will not come, because they will stay up state, yankees!! Orsini was the worst hire possible for this institution. We continue to live in the DP nightmare and shoot ourselves in the foot every chance we get!!!!!!

What? No one gives a blank about Doherty? Do you speak to people knowledgable about sports in public? Hell I had a conversation with a complete stranger Thursday morning who lives in far south Texas but is a Maryland booster/alum knows who Doherty is...was impressed he's at SMU. My 16 year old stepson who lives in Nashville knew of Doherty before SMU signed him. Ryan Harp doesn't open his front door if it hadn't been for Doherty. And two 'yankees' are signed and sealed all the way from Connecticut, one of whom could've gone to Louisville or Oklahoma.

the Death Penalty has absolutely ZERO to do with SMU's problems. SMU's reaction to the Death Penalty is the problem The kids we recruit this year were not even born at the time of the DP. But they know SMU has sucked for a LONG LONG time.

The team does NOT suck now. Coach Bennett is the only coach we've had in 17 years who has put a competitive, respectable team out there. Would we beat USC? Not likely. But how many teams under our previous coaches -- and I liked each of them, to a degree -- would have beaten Tulsa, UAB, Marshall, Tulane, etc.? Coach Bennett has made the Ponies respectable, and he deserves the chance to push the team to the next level.

Can any of these people spell basketball? Who the hell is Ryan Harp?? This is like J-Will could play at nearly any school I have coached!! Quoted by PB. We all want to believe we could be doing better, but the truth of the matter is, those guys are at SMU because they could not have competed at the other schools, too small, too slow, too dumb, whatever!!

Who is Ryan Harp? Friend, do you follow SMU? At all? He is a senior bball player in Abilene. He signed with SMU instead of Texas Tech, Stanford, Wake Forest, Arizona and Iowa State. How many football signees had similar options? Add those schools I just liksted to Oklahoma and Louisville, and that's who Doherty ALREADY has successfully competed with.

to put the death penalty in the sentence when trying to describe SMU's current problems is an absolute joke and an embarrassment to anyone currently associated with the program, it has NOTHING to do with our current problems.

Unlike when you put Phil Bennett and Rusty Burns in the same sentence as SMU's current problems.
