Orsini said "Top 25" in FB and BB. I think if he gives PB one more year, he will be taking a HUGE risk of putting himself (and SMU) one more year away from that goal. PB could not go 7-5/bowling with 2 Sunbelts and a D-1AA team on the schedule. How's he going to do it substituting TCU for Sammy with a big gaping hole in the defense next year?
it s a huge risk getting rid of PB and the potential loss of JW and other players, I could see JW and Sanders getting a package deal somewhere

It would be a mistake to assume they are leaving. Keep in mind Dez Willingham was the most outspoken player when Tubbs was fired. Did he leave? Just look at the men's BB roster to get the answer.
These threats are just what they are and nothing more.

Jwill can actually go play somewhere... he's proven to be a good D-1 qb, sit out 1 year and start 2 years... i bet baylor, TCU, Tulsa, etc. would be willing to take him... he has a full year of experience can sit out a year to learn the offense then start two years... it might be different if he was a sophmore, but i could see him leaving and possibly following PB wherever he goes much like a few players from alabama did for fran...

We need to assume they are serious and be in a position to offer JC QBs by December 15th signing date if that is true. SMU was at least in competition for two top JC QBs before Willis got on a roll. But my guess is that SMU would do its usual delay and not have anyone in place until after December 20th or so which means he couldn't hit the recruiting trail until the day after the Dead Period ends the day after the National Champion. If SMU fires Bennett and a new coach is named within 2 weeks it will be a miracle and a sign that things might be changing in the ADs office.
Who are the QB's transferring?

i sure hope so
You gotta believe this 'delay' means a final negotiation of his buyout clause.
If so, that's too bad 'cause I truly believe PB loves SMU & these players.
If he's gone, he'll be haunted by the 2 series at the Rice 1 yd line.

in the last 24 hours there have been rumors on this board that Willis, Slater and Rhoades might be looking to transfer. No confirmation but especially with Willis we need to replace him if he goes with a player that can play immediately. In fact, since this is Willis' second threat we may want to go that way anyway although SMU probably wouldn't be as attractive if Willis stays.

For the love of Mike, write something using punctuation.

All we know is that Orsini is involved in his season-ending coach/program evaluation conversations. That's it.

Not true, we know that plus a bunch of other things. We know that Bennett's team was 6-6 in a dumbed down schedule designed to make a bowl game feasible; we know no bowl game was attained; we know we have never had a winning season in five years with Bennett at the helm; we know that SMU's road record under Bennett is about 4-1,324; we know that he has had looser recruiting standards than his predecessors; we know that his recruits have not been able to produce a winning season; we know that we have had one winning season in twenty years; we know that we have not gone to a bowl game in twenty-two years; we know that our conference is in no danger of being invited to the BCS.
We also know that SMU averaged about 12,000 in actual attendance this year; that SMU is not an attractive head coaching job; that we are in a state of perpetual at least five more years of rebuilding; that nobody better than Bennett is coming here.
So, take all of that into consideration as well.

oh you forgot that TCU the school most similar to us in hundreds of ways is about 43-18 in the same time period and has whipped us in recruiting at least 5 and arguably all 6 years of Bennett's tenure. You can run away from it as much as you want but until Bennett beats TCU in February our program won't reach the standards they have set.

jt, you are dead on in paragraph one.
now as for paragraph 2, didnt some say the same thing when tubbs got run? and i like our chances of landing a nice coach with orsini (and his amazing buddy doherty helping some too) selling what SMU's got. someone good will like it enough to be buying.
