That might be true but look at it this way. If SMU ever wins CUSA wouldn't you like them to have a shot at the National Title? The way things currently stand, we could do everything expected of us and still have no shot at the National Title. Let's pretend that next year we go undefeated. We will beat one BCS team Texas Tech. It is highly unlikely that we would be rated any higher than 6th in the BCS rankings. So we get a BCS Bowl and get a big payday but no shot for the National Title. At least under my system, we would have a shot.
Even if we did go undefeated next year (what a strange thought...), I don't think we should even be considered for the national championship. We would have a very difficult time competing at that level.
GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!
If we finished undefeated next year, we would never finish in the top 12 of the BCS to qualify for a Major BCS bowl.
and we shouldn't... i hate when stallion rants about the rankings of teams always being wrong, but some of them are pretty funn, when you see us with in 10 spots or so of Miami and FSU WEST DIVISION CHAMPS 2010
My simple playoff idea.1. Keep the bowl set-up as is for teams that do not make the playoffs. No one other than fanatics and the teams care about the non-BCS bowls anyway so just maintain the status quo. This allows teams to have the extra practice, reward the players, etc.
2. Have the higher ranked teams host playoff games until you reach the semifinals. This does three things: a. Eliminates concern of fans having to travel 4 straight weeks to fill a stadium. b. Makes the regular season important because home field will be at stake. (If you don't want 16 teams then you could even take 12 teams for a playoff and reward the top 4 teams with a first-round bye.) c. Makes money for the schools (tickets/parking/concessions). 3. Play the semifinal games on the same day at 2 of the current BCS bowl locations and rotate every year. (One BCS bowl will be out of the rotation each year and I would give that bowl the best matchup outside of the teams that don't make the playoff.) 4. Play the championship game at one of the current BCS bowl locations and rotate every year. This allows each of the 4 BCS bowls to host the championship game every fourth year - the same way it's done now. Simple and easy to implement.
Nope. ![]() That's ok...you'd think TCU and SMU fans could perhaps agree on a playoff. Anyway, the people that know me from the old mustangmaniacs.com days can appreciate (some of) my posts!
You old guys don't remember the rivalry days...someone has to keep it going, if it were up to you guys TCU would be a school we play and then hold hands with after the result (which no one cares about anyway). One of my high school lacrosse coaches told us when The Woodlands were hosting us and providing a picnic afterwards "Guys, we are gonna go down there, kick their [deleted], eat their mom's food, and [deleted] their girlfriends!" Bring back some of the spirit you old farts
You are an endearing young pup... ![]()
why stop with the girlfriend? why not their mom too? WEST DIVISION CHAMPS 2010
