In Terms of awards, the Heisman matters more than the Maxwell because of its name. I do know in the past that there are many split winners of the Award.

I dont understand it and never will i guess...

Should have been expected, since it seems to be a regional award (hello, Trevor Cobb!), but there's no reason to care about that any more than any other award.

Keep in mind that the Doak Walker Award requires them to be in good academic standing and on track to graduate. Some players who may have had great seasons may not have met those requirements.

When Quinn is the #1 pick in the 2007 NFL draft...

Postby DomerPony » Sat Dec 09, 2006 4:59 pm

will you make another inane claim that either "sympathy" or a PR campaign swayed the G.M.?

Sympathy for what, that Quinn will herniate himself on the way to the bank carrying $20+ million next spring?

Smith is the QB of the best team and will join Toretta, Wuerffel and Jason White, among others as the answer to a trivia question.

Shocking Homer Domer comment. Good luck against LSU, you'll need it.

I still think it is sympathy because Quinn finished 3rd in the Heisman race.

Some of the people that vote for the Maxwell vote for the Heisman, i know that means nothing but how can Quinn win the Maxwell but finish 3rd in the Heisman.

I know that some may say its PR marketing. I call it 'feeling bad' for someone because he did not have the year that he was expected to have.

I just can't agree with a sympathy plea. WHo should feel bad for him? Kid threw for 35 TDs compared to 5 INTs with a QB rating of 150+ and completion percentage between 60 and 65 percent if I recall. And I know he is up there in yards too. Those are some big numbers and I can see why someone would vote for him. Remember it wasn't his 3 TDs and 0 INTs that killed ND against USC this season, it was the fact that the defense got trounced.

Smith and Quinn are both great players. If I were voting I would have picked Smith to win both the Maxwell AND the Heisman but it didn't work out that way. I just don't think voters would pick someone bc they feel bad for him. If so, I think they have no backbone and shouldn't be voting.
