Bartel has that unique skill set of not being very good to go along with a lack of intelligence and ability.

I am sure he will get his shot in professional football, either in Arena II or Arena III.

or trying to stay on your feet behind our o-line when you arent mobile.

i think a guy's attitude, work ethic, and desire can always be worked on by him if he chooses. your throwing strength can only improve so much, and bartel is simply gifted in that area. i am hoping for the best for him.

Exactly. A number 2 overall pick and 2 other HUGE character question marks that were drafted based on the fact that they have talents that others simply do not posses. Is Mcphearson still with the Saints or anyone? (That is who the Fl St picture is right).

granted Bartel might not be as talented as these guys but he's 6'4 with a cannon and has never raped, robbed, stolen, been kicked off teams etc etc. So much less of a character issue to deal with.

I would take him over McCown any day of the week.

i checked the roster today and he wasn't on it... if we have any gamblers out there i'm willing to take bets on Bartel NOT getting drafted...

**edit** it also shows their projected round on the right hand side... i like zabransky as a late round pick up because of his speed, but he's only listed as a potential 7th rounder

Are you sure you want to make that bet with Arizona in the league?

I certainly wouldn't take the bet that he will be drafted. As I said before, no chance in h*ll for round 3 or 4 as someone suggested. If anything at all he will be second day, free agent pickup, or possibly nothing at all. By the way when I made my list of QBs I completely forgot about a couple of those guys and Beck out of BYU is especially impressive I think.

Bartel's Sr. Stats for reference if anyone was wondering:

10 games
135.41 passer rating
58.3 %completion
2023 yards
16 TDs
5 INTs

*EDIT* they probably would have been even better if played against SMU's secondary this year... ZING

Tarleton is Division II. That is a level below I-AA. That Sam Houston State team we crushed would have killed 'em. Although... they barely lost to I-AA Texas State whose head coach is now at Rice.

That would make sense, considering that, for some unknown reason, the Bears feel compelled to draft a quarterback every year who will be more famous as an answer on "Stump the Schwab" than for actually playing.

Not to go careening wildly off topic here and mention guys who actually played this year for SMU, but I have heard at least a couple of coaches -- who coached AGAINST us this year, not for SMU -- who have said they think Justin Rogers could get drafted, maybe even around the 4th round (although that sounded high to me). The Tulsa coach I talked to said Rogers is a living clone of Nebraska-ex Jared Tomich, who got drafted and stuck for a few years, I think with the Saints. Not sure if he's still playing. (EDIT: NFL.com says he's with Kansas City now.)

Haywood would probably have been a more highly regarded prospect if he hadn't suffered the dreaded, mysterious shrinking disease suffered by all SMU athletes once they are accurately measured. Poor guy shrunk an 1 3/8th inch. Not as bad as Desmond Jones-I noticed he shrunk 2 inches at his next school.

From what I've been told, some scouts were enamored with Haywood's quickness, others were completely turned off by inconsistency. I'll bet he gets a free-agent tryout, and hope he wows 'em.
