2007 is a 6-6 season year at best

Postby Sam I Am » Thu Mar 15, 2007 2:14 pm

Several of us have already gone over the 2007 schedule and concluded that we are a 6-6 team at best, allowing that we can beat UNT in NC (and that is no gimme with their new coach). We could go 2-2 or 1-3 in NC; the CUSA might be 4-4 wiht effort. Should we strive harder and win 7-5 that will be a gain, but not the kind to excite the football world. Should we get a bowl bid ever, then the media will feature out come back with much emphasis upon the DP and the drought afterwards. PB is a notoriusly slow starter. If his record changes in September, then watch out world.

Why? What has changed?

We had a 6-5 season a few years ago and yet we've gone 0-12 in our shiny new stadium since then. Please substantiate your sunshine and tell us what is really different now than then.

Better players, experience, small measures of success last season, more confident players, better depth and some local and national recognition. We won't see 0-12 again.

My apologies, O all knower of collegiate football. Do tell me what makes having a successful season next year a mere impossibility? There is absolutely no reason why we cannot win C-USA. There is absolutely no reason why we couldn't upset Tech or TCU. We have an experienced, very talented QB, a RB who is finally healthy again (not to mention the ones that filled his shoes last year are more experienced as well), multiple WRs that have both chemistry and experience with the QB, an OL that is looking much better than last years, a secondary that should be much improved, and some guys who are already stepping into the big shoes that our DL left last year. Now just chill out and enjoy what is being built here.

For some odd reason, some people just enjoy being unhappy too much to enjoy being happy...if you know what I mean. :?

Not really, I'm perfectly willing to admit I am unhappy with the sorry state of affairs over the last twenty years. Let's hope Bennett can finally change them in his 5th year as coach. See, PK, I have hope, just not expectations.

You've changed the subject. It's not about hope or expectations. It's having the courage to admit just every little once in a while that we do have some pretty cool things going on around here. The stadium? Cool stuff. The Boulevard. Very cool. Our QB? He's good. All three of which amazingly happened since the Death Penalty. It's ok to enjoy a little something every once in a while. We won't tell anyone.

Hope is good! It's what keeps most of us coming back for more. :D

You did not read closely enough as usual, because the subject had changed already--PK's happy post was in response to Raplh's about hope.

And yes, I like all the stuff you mentioned and I am happy about all of it. But none of that has changed our fortune on the field which is what I am not happy about. And if you are, then I question your status as a fan.

And about our QB, I am excitied about his freshman year too. But not that long ago we have a guy named Flanigan who everybody liked and who made us bowl eligible one year, and that house of cards has since come crashing to the ground. Now, I'll ask you again, since you have avoided answer the question twice before: What's different?

I thought I had already answered your question. What's different is that we built a new stadium and have the Boulevard now. I hope Justin Willis is as good as Ramon -- he's certainly the best since Mr. Flanigan. The stadium and Boulevard may or may not directly contribute to our on field performance, but they directly contribute to *my* happiness as a fan. Justin Willis does help in the W/L department and is just a sophomore next year.

Did that answer your question?
