I have the flu so I can barely think straight, much less type. I have some thoughts on this.
I am conflicted about this. On the one hand, the dollar amounts are relatively cheap when you think about it. Fans at other schools pay more for less. On the other hand, this University is not in a position to be asking more of the fan base. Period.
It indeed sounds like the days of free tailgaiting are over. Because, hey, unless you are paying real money, SMU doesn't need your support anyway. It isn't like SMU doesn't sell out its games or anything. I know for a fact they don't sell all the reserved tailgaiting spots anyway. Why not jack up the price?
I can’t think of anything I would rather not do than tailgate in Doak Walker Plaza. It is away from everybody else and hot as heck. What moron thought of that?
I am sure they are keeping the vast wasteland of the nonalcoholic tailgaiting area. Because, hey, we need to offer an alternative, even though not one person has taken advantage of it in seven years. That is incredibly stupid. I understand that it is right by Perkins and HPUMC and people drinking beer right by a church ain’t cool but the place is devoid of life week after week every year. The smart thing to do would be to think of alternative uses for that space. Like a kiddie corral-bounce houses and cr@p.

If we lose to North Texas I don't think they will have to worry!

yah the suits wouldnt be here... we're here for a different reason. there is NO loyalty in sports, and i really don't want to list examples of how there's no loyalty and its all about results and profits (for both sides)...

If this were a business it would be run on a competitive model with other businesses in the marketplace which it is not.

i was waiting for that, you are getting way to predictable... and i didnt say it was a successful business, but a business with a bad model is a business none the less

The best tailgating in C-Usa is UTEP. For HOURS they park on the side of any street and for hour after the game too.
I do not understand this marketing. I understand the need for more money and parking is one way to do that. The increase in the number of spots is a good way to do that. The 500% increase in price is just bully tactics.
Personally I think I am having thought of just going to a couple games and riding dart for free.
Craig, I hope I can bring a chair and say howdy.

People are people, UTEP has better crowds even in bad years that we do in good years.
I guess you see nothing wrong with this.
I see as the same as selling those GREAT blue seats at the bball game and then having 70% empty.
We get some money and look like a pud with no attendance.
Marketing is great stuff but is has to be based upon realistic research. This does not pass the dog test.

You have my endorsement (as long as you do not propose any fancy bridges across the Boulevard or let the Mustangs move to Arlington).
Berger- Thank you for your endorsement. I promise no bridges and the Mustangs will not be moving to Arlington or the Cotton Bowl. DiamondT wrote:The brochure says that they have created more spots on the blvd. How have they done this? Are they going to shrink the size of the spaces? May get a little tighter for our SUVs. Smaller spaces and higher prices. Nice.
Diamond T-
I saw that too, but I think when they are talking about new spots, they are referring to the Northeast section and also spots in the main quad by Dallas Hall. I don't see how they could fit more parking spots, at least on the south side of the Boulevard.

Not true. I like to point visiting fans in that direction if they ask where they can tailgate.

Just wait. In a few years they'll probably try selling us tailgating priveleges behind Dallas Hall, or at the Mrs. Baird's, or at the Dart station, or inside the physical plant...

But part of business is keeping your customers happy, especially your loyal customers.
I'm a loyal customer, I'm not happy. How can they possibly justify raising prices 600%?
