Home and home means just that, not home and Jerry World (or AA Center in bball). The philosophy of the current athletic department and coaching staff is that we don't have "home" games not at home.

I agree that we should not move our home games from Ford, especially for aggy. They knew where we play our games when they signed the contract.

That being said, I am sure it would be tough for the Department to pass up a game in Dallas with someone like Notre Dame over the issue of wanting to play at Ford. Having a game like that could be a financial windfall for a cash hungry department and it would be hard to say no if ND demanded we move the game to the Cotton Bowl or the Jerry Bowl.

home-and-home or a 2-1 against a BCS school means we'll play you at our place first and may decide to pay you 50,000 exit fee to play some one else later because we can make 20 times that exit fee to play another home game. If Bennett's around they probably will honor it-just don't be surprised if they don't. Anybody know what that exit fee is for Texas A&M. They are often surprisingly low.

They usually have huge exit fees for their OOC opponents and really low exit fees for themselves. Remember when we wanted to get out of the OSU game at Stillwater? Unless Bennett is still here, I suspect the Aggies would dump a game at Ford in a second, and if we are playing well enough by then 5 years from now to possibly beat them don't be surprised if they dump the game no matter who is coaching us.

While we're all speculating, this could be viewed the same way as Texas-TCU. Frogs are going there this year and from what some TCU people were saying, it's not a done deal the Horns are coming up here -- and that includes playing the game at JerryWorld.
My votes

Get A&M a semi-annual game in Dallas, Jerry's World works for me

Baylor as a regular with us (goal: beating a Big XII team "regularly")

Illinois, home and home: Zook loves recruiting and probably thinks he can in Texas. Besides, Champaign is 3 hours from Chicago. (Plan B = Northwestern)

Navy, because it is likely to be televised and both schools spell "tradition"

We need a BCS type of OOC schedule, if we want to be a player, e.g. Orsini's Top 25 Team Goal.
This also goes to the gentlemen wanting to bring in bad BCS teams like Illinois...

If we beat Baylor twice they will never play us again. If we beat Baylor regularly it would be too much of a loss for them to play us. Other BCS patsy's feel the same way. Losing to a non-BCS team looks too bad. Unfortunately, we've got to get relevant quick or we never will. NCAA Politics are not working in our favor and yes I recognize they never have. Soon in this NCAA BCS patsy's will only play other BCS teams or just take beatings from the big BCS teams. Losses to teams like us are too costly for BCS teams. The NCAA that I loved that included many underdogs is going extinct. Eventually, to have hopes for year in and year out excellence you will have about 25 teams to root for. Those 25 teams have all the power and they are impossible to compete with currently.

THis is the reason I route for the Frogs alot even though I feel like vomiting when they win. Same reason I love Boise State.

For non-conference games against Non-BCS schools. In addition to a Sunbelt patsie, we might consider a team like Boise who might like a home and home series with us. Beating them would give us some instant credibility despite their non-BCS status. We might also look at some of the dregs of the ACC and BE. UConn, Syracuse, UVA and Duke come to mind. Maryland might be an interesting match-up despite their recent success. I would not schedule SEC except for Miss. State, Ark., or Vandy. Big Ten - Northwestern, Indiana, and perhaps Purdue. I think Illinois is going to get real good real fast. Absent a match-up with Stanford, I really wouldn't be interested in the PAC-10 schools.

Careful now East, on of the Sunbelt patsies we played last year pounded us 24-6.

I just don't see any way that A$M would play at Ford, they signed the deal because they needed us on their home schedule in 2005 and would have plenty of time to work out the logistics (or bail) before our "turn" came up.

I agree that the Bennett connection cannot be discounted and A$M wouldn't mind playing a game in Dallas for the local Aggie faithful, but they would end up [deleted] off more fans than they made happy simply because Ford is no where big enough to accomodate everyone.

Ford is a great facility and perfect for SMU but we have to be flexible and realistic when it comes to scheduling a "mega" giant which I say is a very short list of UT, A$M, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Notre Dame, if we want to ever play any of these guys at home, we will have to move the game, most likely to Arlington....and nothing wrong with that I say.

Don't forget Notre Dame is not a "mega-giant." They have fewer students then we do. However they do have the tradition, winning, cult following as well.

My basis of "mega" giant was not based on school size, football skill, etc...it was a short list of schools that Ford could not accomodate due to the number of fans that would want to attend the game in the Dallas area.

For the other 100 D-1 schools, Ford is fine 8) . Even, if by some mircale, we had a home game with a team like Penn St. or Michigan, the 20+ thousand seats that would be available to them at Ford would be plenty due to the geographical difference. The schools on my "mega" giant list are the handful that have the right mix of local connections, geography, and fan following.

No I understand what you were saying. I guess I was just throwing out Notre Dame as "something we could be" somewhere over the rainbow, right next to the pot of gold.

I agree that Ford is probably inadequate for hosting the following schools: LSU, A&M, UT, Michigan, Ohio State, and ND. Perhaps, Arkansas. Other than that, I think we can handle just about any other school.

Is that with Ford at 32,500 or at 45,000?

Ole Miss would be a good out of conference team to play. They had a large number of fans (probably more than Rice or UH ever have at a game in Dallas) at the game when we played them in the Cotton Bowl before Ford Stadium opened - many of the Ole Miss fans had left during the third quarter that day due to the [deleted] whipping SMU was putting on them........and then came one of the biggest collapses in SMU football history. Not sure Cave-in ever got control of the team after that one!
