We did that some with Mapps at the end of the year but of course right now we do not have a legitimate Heisman candidate handing off or faking to a 1000 yd rusher. But I bet they install it as an option and a fall back should Willis get hurt. Mapps at QB and utilize any of the other RBs depending on speed or power needed. It would especially be helpful if Willis got the wind knocked out of him and needed to sit a couple of plays. It could also rest rest Willis if he got tired. I would only use Logan as a last resort if he actually has the potential believed. He needs a red shirt year.

Logan could always take a redshirt year next year should Willis go down. We would be better served using a player who is a QB than putting in some gimicky play/formation with somebody at QB who has not played the position in several years. Given that this is Phil's do or die year, he needs to have whoever is most capable at any given position in the game at all times.

My statement is not an answer to what happens if Willis gets hurt for an extended period. I am just saying that the "wildcat" formation, with the right personnel, is a good change of pace to throw at the opposition. Willis moves a lot and will get tired. I think this is a decent alternative rather than just throwing in another QB to take a snap while he gets a breather. And you do practice the formation during the year so the players are prepared to execute the formation. We ran it last year but you could tell they had not spent much time on it. My guess is that they have been doing it more in practice over the spring. If Willis goes down for an extended period and if we are not already 2-7 or the like, then you go with your next best QB whomever that may be. Yes Logan could then redshirt the next year but that is unlikely.

Look at the video that is posted on the first page.

And secondly, Rhoades should be back at QB NOW.

Jamell Kennedys numbers before G J Kinne went to Gilmer. I watched him play when he was a Junior and QB the kid can play I think he will be a pleasant suprise for this class.

Interesting to watch. I forgot he was left-handed. But he looks a little raw, especially with his footwork. That's coachable. I agree he will be an interesting player for us.

Oh we are forgetting the kid from DeSoto-Terrance Wilkerson, who was promised a shot at QB. So right now we have a starter who is 5-11.5, a backup who is 5-11 and a freshman in Wilkerson who is 5-10 according to actual measurements by Rivals.

And here's chicken [deleted] to make us all aware of QB height. I guess you would have thought Major Applewhite was a piece of [deleted] too right? But oh wait, you'd have to go back and check Rivals 1997 Top 100 list first.
Basically, I'm a badass.

If we're going with the wildcat formation, you gotta see walkon Daniel Miller from Lake Highlands as well as Logan Turner from Sulphur Springs in the mix.

Since you work so closely with the team, remind me where you get your "exact" heights?

Tell me how bad Major Applewhite, Drew Tate, Drew Brees, Doug Flutie, etc., are while you're at it. Being 6'3" doesn't make you a quarterback. Ability does. Willis, all 4-foot-5 of him (he seems to be shrinking, in your esteemed opinion) has ability, and you haven't seen Rhodes, Turner or Wilkerson enough to know how good they are any more than the rest of us have.

Stop the world. I want to get off. We actually agree about this. If he's a good athlete who will work hard, then heck with it, throw him into the mix and see what he can do.

Maybe this has already been discussed, but speaking of QBs how is Zach Rhodes shoulder ? If he can play, he has talent and real speed.

Chris Leak was roughly the same height as JWill :)
Regarding Zach's shoulder, he's seen progress in movement and strength. I hear he's quite diligent about rehabilitation and has been taking in his treatments well. He will no doubt be in and out of the athletic training room after practices and during two-a-days. New Braunfel sources say he has talent and some (okay, his friends) swear by him but I myself would like to see more out of him during August to make any sure statements.

We certainly would not want to consider moving WR Columbus Givens to Quarterback unless someone else does not workout as a backup but Columbus was a Good high school QB. As a high school QB; Completions 59% , rushed for over a 1,100 yards Sr. year, All district 16 4-A MVP, 1st Team Central Texas, and Rivals 3 Star recruit......Not Bad and we know he is 4.5 quick also. Hey Stallion, he is 6 feet tall !

with no backup QB that has taken a single snap at Division I, let's just hope we don't see that "OL standing still while the defense takes a free shot at Willis" play run in 2007. Let's trust the officials to throw a flag w/o Justin being thrown to the ground and trampled by 1,000 lbs of frustrated defenders who have been chasing him all day/night

Gee I can't believe I have to come up with these all the time-Zach "Super-Boy" Sledge had the best passing percentage in Texas last year. Move him. Permanently.
