All-Star Games = COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME

I'm stunned on two fronts:
1. People actually took the time -- even if it was for a minute -- to watch this godforsaken thing. Time in your life you won't get back.

2. People actually offered some of analysis of Logan Turner. That's even a bigger waste of time. They need to get their calendars checked.

I actually paid $10 to watch the game in person. I was stunned at the attendance...there were probably 10,000 people there!

Here's my report from the game (attended it as well):

Well it was a pretty uneventful game. The South team beat the North team 14-0. Logan Turner, QB for SMU, started for the North All-Stars and played about 75% of the game. He looked absolutely horrible though. He only completed one pass the entire game and that wasn't until the end of the 3rd Quarter; he also threw two picks (both, ironically to guys going to TCU). He also fumbled on the South's five-yard line (this was the North's best drive of the night), which was caused by another TCU signee. He also got hit pretty hard in the 4th Quarter and was hobbling a little bit.

He had pretty good high school stats, but I didn't see it in him. Hopefully he redshirts because he needs it (not sure though because of QB attrition at SMU).

Two players really stood out for TCU on the South All-Stars team - Tank Carder (defensive MVP, had a couple hard hits/tackles for loss, one pick and a forced fumble) and Jeremy Kerley (one pick returned for 46 yards). Earl Thomas, CB, going to Texas looked good as well. Other than that, it was a pretty sloppy game.

Pretty fair overview...especially the part about the sloppy game. I couldn't believe the North was running the stinkin' wishbone in an all-star game in 2007. At least I made my little brother buy my ticket.

The double fumble on 3rd down that resulted in a 1st down, albeit 20 yards behind the original line of scrimmage about summed up the game.

He was not impressive to say the least, he didn't look like a d-1 quality qb to me. I sure hope Rhodes shoulder is fine.

Not to be defensive about his play ( I watched very little), but these games are not real good indicators of QB talent. Rust from the summer and timing with unknown receivers make good QBs look bad at times. Give him a chance to at least work out with the team before giving up on him. He may be the "pony up" of 2007.

He had great receivers and two VERY GOOD OL blocking for him and couldn't get it done through the air or on the ground. Some of it is blocking and some of it is the level of talent. I just think he needs a year or two to mature in the system as a player.

I will buy that. I have always said that it is not necessary to redshirt skill positions if they are the best there is available. That does not necessarily apply to QB where you have to learn to adjust more to the speed of the game plus learn a new system. Redshirting QBs is a good thing.
