For years, SMU and other Texas universities, had a large number of out of state students from Illinios. When I was a student, Ill was the largest out of state group at SMU and UT. What happened and how did California surpass Ill.? I was from Ill. and so were many of my classmates. No problem with California girls, in fact I left Ill. to get away from the corn fed midwestern girls and be around those from Texas and the south. But what happened to change SMU's demographics?

There are a [deleted] Load of people from California. It wouldn't surprise me to find Ca as the #2 population of most Schools in the Country. -CoS
Here's my ideal OOC slate.
TCU - For obvious reasons. UNT - Because they are improving and if they continue to improve this could prove to be a good rivalry to cultivate. A Big XII - (Baylor, TT, Mizzou, K-State, Kansas, etc.) to get in a local BCS opponent A Pac-10/Big Ten game - To get more national attention and depending on who it is another game on TV.
You'll like the 2009 Schedule then. @ TCU @ Texas Tech vs Navy @ Missouri ![]()
What does the '08 schedule look like?
TCU, Tech, and Navy. Not sure who the 4th OOC is. They have Arkansas State but I don't believe SMU is gonna head to ASU twice, especially back to back years. ![]()
If someone made a 2-1 deal where we go to Jonesboro twice, they should be fired immediately. If it is an open slot, I would assume it would be filled by a I-AA school or a team like UT, A&M, USC, etc. where we go do a one and done deal.
I like UNT, TCU, Big 12 and SEC.
Arkansas and Ole Miss would be big draws at Ford Stadium. Of course Tech and A&M would also be big draws. I think Missouri and Kansas would be good as well. I do think that we should drop UNT anytime there is a chance to upgrade. UNT peresents us with the lose/lose scenario of no one being impressed when you win and you are laughed at when you lose.
There was a thread a couple months back talking about the two trip to ASU. I think the decision was that it really isn't true. We'll see I guess. The National Champs site that has a lot of the future schedules has a lot of mistakes so I'm not trusting what they put on their website anymore. I would love to see Arkansas back on the schedule though. Missouri, I love obviously since I'll be able to make the 2 hour trip over there. ![]()
I agree with SC Pony. Playing UNT is a no win - we're expected to win when we win and a loss tanks the entire season. We should schedule TCU and Baylor every year (former SWC so they are rivals, close geographically, private). The other 2 non-conf games should be former SWC members (at least 1) or from good conferences - Big XII, SEC, etc. Examples - Ole Miss, Vandy, TTech, A&M and yes, even Texas. I don't want to schedule guaranteed losses but...we're on the upswing and should have the ability to compete with the A&Ms and UT's in a couple of years. I'm not saying we're going to win but we will sneak up and beat one of these guys and when we do it will be much bigger than UNT beating us last year. Remember the coverage we got when we beat TCU (who had just beaten OU)? The other factor to consider is recruiting. How many recruits get fired up to watch us play Ark St, UNT and Sam Houston St? Playing well-respected teams competitively has to be much more attractive than playing (and potentially losing to) SHSU, UNT, etc. I'm a firm believer that continually raising the level of competition helps raise your own level of play (and vice versa). Just my 2 cents worth...
no. He's saying it would be better to lose 24-6 to a team that went on to be 3-8 in the SEC or Big Ten than it was to lose 24-6 to a team that went on to be 3-8 in the Lone Star Conference.
