Houston had 1021 yards of offense so I guess there goes the run it up theory, since there were so many rushing yards.
![]() 1-1. Good thing Ark State played UT so tough. It should keep everyone focused on this game.
Swannie & Phillips kept mentioning it on the post-game show last night as a 'new record for an SMU opponent'. According to the 2007 SMU Football Media Guide, the most rushing yards (net) is held by the 1969 Texas Longhorns (611 yds). The most passing yards is held by the 1989 Houston Cougars (771 yds). Individually, NTSU's Daniel Meager set a new passing record by an SMU opposing quarterback for most yards with 601, breaking the old record set by UofH's Andre Ware with 517 in 1989.
I never thought of Dodge as a High School coach. I just thought of him as a coach. And I've been around quite a few.
The guy understands the QB position better than anyone I have ever seen. I've read stories about his offseason programs with all of his QBs, the tests he gave them from down and distance to reads and to having them throw nearly 400-500 balls a day into short, medium and long-range targets and that he had lunch with his QBs a couple days a week to talk the game. Frankly, I think he's wasting his time in Denton. I thought he should have gone to his alma mater to be the QB coach and then eventually take over for Mack Brown. That could still happen. For those that are underselling Meager, you don't know what you are talking about. Dodge coached that kid to be able to deliver performances like Saturday. And that kid put in the work to get there. If their defense is worth anything this year, I don't see how they won't be in every game this year.
