at least 4 players he listed are 2007 recruits. Not too terribly worried about getting beat by true freshmen. Corey Leonard was a 2 star(5.2). Paul Henry wasn't even rated as about half your recruits generally aren't. Couldn't even find the other guy in the database. Notice you didn't claim that ANY of your many Texans were highly recruited-because NONE of them were. I'm sure ASU found some overlooked nuggets. Everybody does. Just about ASU's entire roster is filled with them-every once in awhile one will come through.

My level of confidence in analyzing ASU's talent level is not very high because SMU and ASU generally recruit different recruiting areas. But ASU does have about 15-20 Texans and all were spares coming out of high school. BTW they do have Kelvin Cox who originally signed with SMU but had some sort of academic issue and transfered or may have flunked out. Really guessing on their non-Texan talent level but if its similar to the level of their Texas recruits it ain't very good.Unless they are hiding them in their roster I don't see a lot of Division 1A transfers and what JUCOs they have are ho-hum.

no offense, but you are clueless.
You might want to ask Texas about team speed and ability before you declare our roster ho-hum. If there is one thing our coaches are good at, its finding hidden talent. But even beside that, we have a lot of highly recruited players.

Not just Texas players like Jarriel Norman (Class 2A 2nd team, 2005 state champion in 100- (10.60) and 200- meter (21.40) dashes. ) DOn't forget Prince Hickman, Brian Sheffield, Chris Easley, Josh Arauco along with others (who among those are "spares"?)

Here are a few:

QB Corey Leonard - offers from LSU and South Carolina, plus more

RB Preston Brown - 4 star, #13 RB in the country (scout) offers from Ok State, Tennessee, Miami, etc

OL Paul Henry - Scout 4 star, OG #22 Several Big offers

WR Linzy Harris - 3/4 star depending on site.

FB William Anderson - #9 FB in the country

DE Stanley Porter - 3 SEC Offers

Snapper Adam Gaston - Ranked by Max Emfinger as Top 10 in the country.

A lot of these guys aren't even #1 on the depth chart. I guarantee you Tyrell Johnson will be the best defensive player to take the field saturday, and after Reggie Arnold (who is just averaged 6.2 YPC against Texas) gets through with your line, you'd be happy to have him too.

SMU will be a test for us for sure, and I am not predicting us to win just yet, but if you think your team is going to come into Indian Stadium and walk all over this team, you are mistaken.

See my comments on Another Reality Check thread on the relative strengths and weaknesses of ASU from another set of eyes. I think there are two major differences with this team vs. last year's team (ASU, that is). ASU's pass defense is (on paper, anyway) stronger than last year...and you have a QB now who could possibly be able to pass his way out of a hole (maybe...depends on whether or not SMU's defensive guys coach up the DBs and they guys find a pass rush).

ASU- 42
SMU- 27

If North Texas doesnt throw int after int in the fourth they easily put up 42 or more points

docpoco - Regardless about the comment regarding talent, lets have a look at the players you are amped about:

Corey Leonard - We saw him last year, good arm not a good head. I am sure he improved. And honestly, if the dude really had a scholarship to LSU do you really think he would be at Arkie State? Specially being from Louisiana?

Preston Brown - I am guessing you are talking about the 3* #87 ranked RB in the country according to Scout??? Oh and he did not get an offer from Miami unless you mean Ohio...someone is lying to you.

Paul Henry - This guy is a stud...not sure how he ended up at ASU.

Linzy Harris - By 3/4 you mean 2 (rivals) / 3 (scout)? Same kid who didn't catch a pass in your first game?

William Anderson - This guy is a 3* 5.5 rated kid...actually very good! Got nothing but good things to say about this one.

Stanley Porter - Another 3* 5.5 rated kid. Another good one though he lists such offers as Alcorn St., Jackson St., Mississippi Valley and Div II as his only other committable offer. Sounds like he got the raw deal from Ole Miss.

Adam Gaston - I am not sure what a snapper is? Are you saying your long snapper is better than ours because if that is your game plan than I will give it to you. Cheers!

Finally we come to Reggie Arnold. He can play and 6.2 is impressive. I like this kid, he plays tough.

Alright so overall assessment: You amp a QB that completed under half his passes and threw as many ints as TDs last year, you shout for a DB who had 1 pick last year, a long snapper which is just funny, and 4 true freshman who I can't even tell if they are starting.

This is just my opinion though.

Preston Brown, Paul Henry, Linzy Harris and William Anderson did not play against Texas. Or, if they did, someone should tell the NCAA their participation roll for the game is wrong. In which case, Arkie State might have some 'splaining to do.

SMU 34
Arkansas St 7

I heard the defense has been reading the board all week and is eager to show what they can do. And everytime someone predicts SMU to lose, SmooPower cries.
