Believe me, you wouldn't have wanted to see the first one. ![]()
"I would rather have SMU play Baylor...at least that way, if we win, we beat a Big XII team and an old SWC foe!!!
If we lose, oh well, it was against a big, bad Big XII team. And its Baylor, so we would never get run over by them. There are as many or more Baylor fans who would come see SMU play than UNT fans. In other words, keep Baylor on the extended schedules, not UNT." No Doubt. NTSU is a lose-not win sitatuion. Sorry sreaming eagles, but I do love 88.1 KNTU.
Baylor is anything but a big, bad Big XII team. They are the cupcake of their conference. Maybe you were being sarcastic. But I do agree that a loss to UNT sounds a lot worse than a loss to Baylor. I would like to see us play either team. I like local opponents. Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
I think 100% of the SMU fans on this board would rather play Baylor(which BTW we have lost 8 straight times to). In fact, I would just as soon play Baylor as TCU. But that's not really the issue. We play 4 non-conference games. As many chicken littles have expressed "the Big 12 is too big, mean and strong for poor ole SMU to compete week in and week out. The issue is whether in balancing the schedule with teams we can beat-should it be NTSU, Sam Houston St., Arkansas St or some other cupcake. In this light, NTSU makes more sense than other schools because of revenues, expenses, media coverage and local interest.
I agree, I have no problems with us playing UNT, it is a good series, even though we have more to lose than they do Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
Here are my 4 that we should set in stone:
1. TCU - Our only rival that we have left. 2. Baylor - Waco ain't that far and they suck on a regular basis. 3. NTSU - The Green Wienies are fun to have around and we can bag a 2 for 1 with them since there stadium sucks. Plus we are now 28-4-1 lifetime against them. 4. Some other crappy BCS private school. Think Duke, Wake Forest, Vandy, Northwestern. Class of '91
BrianTinBigD, I disagree on #4. Those schools would bring zero in the way of fans and revenue and prove nothing as to our progress. I would prefer we schedules some of the big boys from the big 12 such as Tech and A&M as we have plus the Mizzo types assuming we can get them to come to our stadium.
As for #3, I don't think I would want to see NTSU every year. Mix them into a rotation including the service academies (Navy, Army and Air Force). They usually produce a fair amount of butts in the seats, more so than the schools you mentioned in #4. Perhaps Baylor should be included in that rotation with NTSU and the academies.
North Texas - winnable game against a local rival
TCU - see above Baylor - see above Arkansas/Tech/A&M/Missouri - a measuring stick game and mix in a service academy when either Baylor or North Texas is unavailable
Here's my dream 4 OOC. Granted it wouldn't win us a lot of games, but I'd be more interested than when we play Ark St or SHSU.
1. tcu - We need to have them on the schedule every year. 2. NTSU/Baylor - Rotating schedule between these two would be nice 3. Texas Tech/A&M - I like having these two on the schedule even if we get blown out every time. They both have large alumni populations in Dallas. Part of me hopes that by scheduling teams like these, we may one day be able to play on their level. 4. I like this thought... Maybe Harvard or Yale would be a fun team to schedule here too. A game that hopefully we could win and might get put on tv. "He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"
"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"
Re: Dodge at UT?With all due respect: $1 million to coach at NTSU, or $1 million to be offensive coordinator at a top-10 team that happens to be your alma mater? If Uncle Mack calls, DodgeBall heads south.
Re: Dodge at UT?
I don't know. Giving up a head coach job for an assistant job requires setting aside ego.
I think we should resume a series on the west coast for selfish reasons! Lets play UCLA at the Rose Bowl
Not only is that your measuring stick game you can provide a large and becoming larger (as Califonia is the second highest percentage of students today) witha chance to catch the Stangs!!!!!
