He was academic All State and was on the Honor Roll both years at UT. SMU would have taken him I'm sure. My point is that SMU is taking the same players that UT is. Yes they should be punished but don't sit here an act that UT is recruiting a bunch of bad apples from a different pool of players. We've got enough drug problems at SMU even among the general student population to credibly argue differently.

thanks for reminding us stallion. i was under the impression that smu football did a thorough character analysis before signing any of our recruits.

My point is that SMU is taking the same players that UT is.

HAHA -- i thought you were supposed to be the debbie downer realist? we are taking the same players UT is?

We've got enough drug problems at SMU even among the general student population to credibly argue differently.

There's that debbie downer realist i was looking for -- you even managed to work in a shot at not only our football team but our students! i'm impressed

Ex-UT quarterback Gardere arrested on DWI charge

Former Texas quarterback Peter Gardere was arrested early this morning for under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Austin.

Gardere, the only UT quarterback in history to beat rival Oklahoma four times, was released on a personal recognizance bond. Gardere was quarterback at UT from 1989-92.

re: My point is that SMU is taking the same players that UT is.

So it's a total coincidence that Texas Longhorn players are getting arrested constantly and SMU Mustang players are not? Wow, just a string of bad luck over and over an over and over again.

Yep that and the atmosphere in Austin. UT doesn't take JUCOs(oh maybe 1 every 4 years), Division 1A Transfers and can't take non-qualifiers. They recruit from the same pool of players and if UT gets you can be sure 15-20 other schools offered did too. I've asked again where's the proof that UT is RECRUITING thugs based on their backgrounds BEFORE getting admitted to UT. Nobody wants to answer that question. I know where the skeltons are buried at most schools in the 5 state region. UT doesn't recruit the thugs that many more do.

The problem is that they don't do background checks (at least not to my knowledge). If they did they probably would scare away certain recruits. So, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Hopefully Mack kicks his [deleted] off the team.

The point is Mack Brown is running a ship of fools and should be held accountable, nitwit.

Whether we'd take them or not is meaningless.

I'm sorry. Nitwit was a out of line. It's just a term that springs to mind when conversing with an Orange Empire Defender.

(Shhhhhh. Be real quiet, kids. I've set the bait for mean ol' jtstang. He'll be along in a minute..... shhhhhhhh)

Smooboy said "But don't forget, they were not cheating in the 80s. Before this latest bad news they've been a clean program for decades"

There were on probation twice in the 80's.
