Why?
Because we are not the program we once were. We are the ugly stepsister. Sure, I would love to have the pick of the best "up and coming" coach from a D-1 school, but they are not looking to take a step back to a program like ours. Our options at this point are
1. A good high school coach, or a college coordinator with a good reputation. (been there - done that way too often since the DP)
2. A coach with some D-1 experience and some history of success. If Coker didn't have some issues, he would still be coaching. Same goes for Neuhisel, and every other name mentioned ad nauseum on this board.
Short of taking a flyer on an unproven coach, anyone we hire is going to have some warts. We just need to decide which blemishes we can overlook.

How about that coach at Troy? They dismantled Rice in the NOLA bowl last year and destroyed Okla State on Friday.

as I understand it, Troy builds teams the way Bennett supposedly built defenses at K-State on Transfers and Jucos. Can't do that here so it is likely that he wouldn't be as successful.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

If an Orsini hire comes in and demands the model be changed, would Orsini see it get done? Has Bennett ever seriously asked for the Model to be changed?
And I know I am sounding like Stallion with all this talk about a model, but seriously, it's time to get competitive.

This isn't first hand knowledge, but haven't the restrictions been lessened with each successive coach? Stallion has said several times that Bennett has worked with the least amount of restrictions of any coach since the DP. I don't know if that is true or not though. (too busy to fact check)

I think they've been lessened gradually since Turner took over as president of SMU.
Why does USC, a school similar in structure and atmosphere to SMU, win national championships? Their model works.
