Terry might think he needs to sharpen his skills a bit, get SMU rockin', then a bigtime job would be the next step.

Exactly. Similiar to hiring Matt, SMU can be and should be a destination. Winning here will bring amazing publicity in a major markets. Success here would be like my Cubs winning the World Series. Imagine the media reaction? Winning the CUSA brings decent Bowl opportunities. Success means tenure. Egos aside, a winning and successful coach could easily be satisfied leading the Mustangs and receiving a lifetime achievement award.

re: If SMUever hires someone who can turn this thing around, they won't be here long.

Wouldn't that be a "good problem" for SMU to have?

Or should we just hire crappy coaches so no one will hire them away from us?

I could not disagree more. You are not trying to recruit a coach to Jonesboro, Sioux Falls or Casper. This is Dallas with a great quality of life. This is still Division 1 football. How many Divison 1 football jobs are there? Let's take Bowden as an example. Is a Southeastern Conference School likely to hire him as a head coach? Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10, Big East? Probably not. Been out of coaching awhile and some baggage. Did George O'Leary accept a job at a second tier BCS school. Yes. Did Mike Price? Yes. Step back from this. Just because we've been through 22 years of disaster, we assume every coach that we could hire is going to be just as negative as some of us are.

And if he a guy comes in here and makes us a winner and then leaves. That would be a nice problem to have. Last time I checked, TCU didn't fall apart after the genius Fran left town.

Why hasn't Bowden been hired by another school since he left Auburn?

Baggage.

SMU can do better. A LOT better.

Take him off the list.

Just look around at other conference usa teams UTEP they took mark price after his scandal at alabama after he was previously at washington state and took that team to the rose bowl. Then another is George OLeary who yeah i think he was hired by our AD who was at UCF at the time after o leary had his troubles at notre dame and was forced to retire before he coached a game. he was also national coach of the year at georgia tech and these guys have continued to stay at their schools. i think it will definatly be a gamble and sure it was almost 15 years when bowden led auburn to an undefeated season, but taking a gamble on a coach like this might be the best thing for this school.

He wasn't at UTEP long. Probably because he was such a prolific three-point shooter, the Memphis Grizzlies just hired him to be their shooting coach.

That's okay IF we can get a "Ron Meyer" followed by a "Bobby Collins".

Wouldn't you like to be able to read Orsini's mind about now! Makes us wonder what he is thinking...He has to support Bennett til we know the outcome...I believe Bennett will finish the year...then the review will take place. And to know what Orsini is thinking...may take us a while to figure out...hopefully it is good...Go Mustangs!!!
