And just to echo that very lucid and impressive post by expony18, I do not see very many posters on here attacking players personally or suggesting that they don't give effort. That should indeed be off limits not only on message boards, but in general.
Many, myself included, have pointed out that they do not appear to be, collectively, as good athletically as their opponents. And that is born out by the play on the field, and the record, and has nothing to do with their effort. I for one think these guys give it their all every week, it's just that their all does not bring them to the talent level of their opponents. Now if that sends a bunch of recruits running the other way, then I figure chances are good they could not have helped out much anyway.
I echo jtstang's comments. I believe we have a very dedicated group of young men who put it all on the line every week. I express my gratitude to them. I couldn't imagine what they are going through, and at the end of the day, I truly hope that they will view all of this as a positive experience.
Guys, we appreciate you and we look forward to meeting those who will continue the fine tradition of sticking together through good times and in bad times. Thanks for being great examples of STUDENT-Athletes.
We have family members of players who have come on this board numerous times to tell us that what we say on this board does in fact matter, including one very convincing post today. That would seem a pretty good confirmation of my thesis.
I'm off to enjoy the bye week and catch some steelhead in Oregon.
I still do not understand SMU's ignoring the great potential in the sumo community. There are many sumos who will never go professional and would make fine linemen.

There is also much potential outside their supposed "300 mile radius" Funny how the safety at UTEP (Demps) from Roosevelt HS here in San Antonio could not get a look from us but will be drafted and also I think recovered the on-site kick against us Saturday.
I was at the Smithson Valley vs. Madison HS game Friday (again both at or near 10 ten teams in the state) and representatives from Tulsa, UH, UTEP, Okla. St., etc. there but to my knowledge no one from SMU. Talking to the Madison people and again they say they Coach Streety's office is covered up with contacts from Tulsa and UTEP consistently. Hope we can finally get someone who will recruit everywhere and/or at least get us a presence somewhere in addition to East Texas.
You wouldn't even need a training table for women's sumo. Umphrey Lee is already serving the food necessary.

Me thinks that we are both thinking of the same dude! ![]()
Jaydon, I feel for you as a dad...I do...but the "little pony" thing has me so tickled that I can't form up a real response.... ![]() Truly priceless...I am sure you are a good dad, but the idea that a big strapping football kid is "little pony" is just funny. Good funny...not bad funny. Heh heh...I'm going home and start calling my boys (10 & ![]() ![]() "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." Whenever a coach is on thin ice and the season starts badly, recruits certainly start looking around. For one thing, they may get an offer yanked by the new regime. Or they might not want to be committed to a program whose coach is unknown. This is not an uncommon occurance. However, if a player has a choice between SMU and UNT and chooses UNT, he's probably pretty stupid. The good thing is that the Baylor coach is on equally thin ice, Franchione is on thin ice at A&M, and Briles may leave UH if the Aggies open their checkbook. So, there will be lots of kids looking around this fall.
