Try reading Johnson's bio. He ran the spread at Navy in 95 and 96 as offensive co-ordinator and broke several Navy records. And prior to that he had tremendous success as an offense co-ordinator running a multitude of offensives. The guy is flexible and his history shows it. He does what he does at Navy because like Air Force you can basically only win consistently at those places running that type of offense. Navy can not get great throwing QB's to go there. Hence the option which they run very well, right Phil?
Which offensive records did he break, I might ask? Read the bio more closely.
407.7 total yards per game in 1996 less 283.6 rushing yards per game means the passing game was putting up 124.1 yards per game. "Spread offense" does not always mean the same thing to all people. Edit: And Don Nelson would have players play in the paint if he just had a Center.
Would we really care what offense he is running if we beat a Big East team? I wouldn't care if we run the freakin' Maryland I, Wishbone, Flexbone, I, Power I, Veer, Fun and Gun, Run and Shoot, West Coast, Spread, Wing T, Double Wing, Single Wing, T or Pistol just as long as we win.
The same goes for defense. I just want to win. Class of '91
clearly bennett isnt the only coach around with some game management issues at times. Wannstedt basically went brain dead last night for Pitt. And this from a guy who has won super bowls as a coordinator, been an nfl head coach, and coach one of the best college programs in the country at the time.
Perhaps but there's a reason his tenure as coach of the Bears and Dolphins was less than stellar.
