I will say this, Rutgers until last year, was one of the most putrid programs in College football for the last 50 years. But they are in a BCS conference (for now). One can start to speculate whether the BE will keep its BCS standing long term. But clearly, the conference may be on life support. That may very well be an impetus for a playoff system. Remember the BCS keeps a playoff out because it has a bare majority of votes on the Division 1-A football council. If the BE were close to losing that status, they might suddenly start joining the choir for a playoff before they get bounced out of the BCS (because the BCS might try and add another conference). So there's always hope. And if a playoff system were adopted there would be even greater hope that a school from CUSA, or the MAC, WAC, or MWC would have a chance to run the table.

And for the two thousandth time, don't tell fans who express realism to "move on" from posting on ponyfans. We need them to keep the fire lit under Orsini, et al., since the sunshiners don't think anything is wrong with the program. This board does not belong to the sunshiners, it belongs to all SMU fans.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. This is the first time I've seen you actually express an argument justifying beating up "sunshiners." You believe it lights a fire under the administration. You could be right. I don't think you are -- but the argument has some merit. Maybe if we continue to [deleted] and moan on here day and night, the administration will make changes it would not otherwise have were we all to sing Kum-ba-yah all day long.
Regarding the comment "the sunshiners don't think anything is wrong with the program." I will go out on a limb and say this: There is NOT A SINGLE PERSON advocating continuing loyalty to the program through thick and thin who believes we are not clearly experiencing a thin period right now. We don't need five minute reminders.

That does not give you or any other blind loyalist the right to tell me and others who express realistic views we should not post on this fan board.

I'm not trying to squelch speech here. I'm trying to understand your reasoning so that I can guage whether my opinion is the right one. If it's not, I'll change it and we'll all be better off. I'm hoping you'll do the same. I mean, we're all trying to help the program, right?

My opinion, and what led me to the post that set you off on this tangent, is I don't care who you are don't tell people who are SMU fans of any variety that they should go post elsewhere.

That helps. We now know this is about you, not the program. If being a loyal alum = being a sunshiner, you haven't understood our responses.
The quote above about the five minutes reminders 'that all is lost' hits the nail on the head. No one said not to post, but being indignant (cynical) gets old. Try to be relevance (maybe supportive), while committed to our team. My disappointment is no less than yours, but my path forward sounds different.

Try to know what you are talking about before coming down on me. This is the post I was talking about, sunshine. SMUFan wrote:By all means, you're right. This whole hope/optimism thing isn't for everyone. You should move on and let PonyFans support the team.

He's only around when Phil's around. Maybe he'll make a cameo later.
