Where did you hear that?
Or are you merely parroting the inane suggestions made in other threads?
I heard it from an SMU employee who is not someone who makes statements like that to get attention or anything like that. He merely related what he had observed to me during a conversation we were having concerning the current situation. He actually saw both Bowden and Barnett on campus himself. It was not second or third hand information.

wow, i like it. wish i woulda seen them both, i woulda went nuts
No need to go scaring people off.

ur right, i woulda scared him to think that somebody actually cares about smu football!
Lighten up guy...didn't you notice the emotioncon?

Just seems to me, with all the speculation, from CJ, ESPN, Rivals, and every other sporting source that talks about this job, it's going to be Bowden. Just looks to be pointing there.

Guess that would rule out Davie too, since ND is not in any conference.

The fact that potential candidates have been on campus does not mean they have or will be offered the position nor if offered does it mean they will accept. It is just nice to know we are finally going after known HCs with successful experience.

My question. Why would a former head coach who had success in a BCS conference not still be coaching in a BCS conference? And what would make him come to a non-BCS conference. He can get money at some other BCS conference school. There will be openings.

It will be a guy, like Gorge O'Leary/Terry Bowden/Glen Mason/Mike Price....a guy who had a fall from grace so to speak.

The challenge, the thrill of the hunt, the opportunity to achieve greatness and the privilege of coaching your SMU Mustangs.

It will shock me if we get any coach in whose reputation has been scared the least bit. We can't get players in with questionable reputations, but bring a HC in with questions marks surrounding recruiting, strippers, and what not. I don't see it, but I have been wrong before. I believe we will hire someone who sucked as a coach where he was at, (reason he is not there anymore ie, Doh), or we will get someone from the pro ranks. I still say ND former HC Bob Davey (Davie), for all you spell checkers.

You might be right. I think Davie is prob a much more serious candidate than this board thinks. He is a Texas guy, had success at Notre Dame, is a national name, and would need to go to a non BCS school if he wanted to get back into coaching.

They all have a couple of skeletons in their coaching closets!

That's why we have been talking about Mason (lost a bowl badly at a tough school to coach at), Barnett (female kicker and stripper scandal), Neuheisel (gambling on college basketball) and Bowden (unproven booster's daughter scandal and he quit mid-season).

These guys can't get jobs at BCS schools! That's why everyone here is clamoring over them. Barnett hasn't sniffed an interview in almost three years! Bowden wasn't even on the market until he made a comment about his status this year!

Put me on record for Barnett or Bowden.

By the way, though I would post their career records:

Glen Mason: 123-121-1
Gary Barnett: 85-82-1
Rick Neuheisel: 61-35
Terry Bowden: 111-53-2

I can't think of many people that I could be less excited about coaching SMU next year.

Agreed. I might have been all right with him 6 years ago, but not now. Back then I wanted Terry Bowden. I still think Bowden or Barnett would be the most successful at SMU based on the current pool being discussed. Jimmy Johnson would be great, but unfortunately he is not a candidate anywhere, much less SMU.
