If he has Texas ties and is nationally recognizable then fine. But strong Texas ties and weak nationaly puts us no better of then bennett.

Re: The Texas Connection - University of Texas at Austin has two good examples - how TO come in and establish relations with the THSCA and Texas high school coaches and how NOT TO make a good first impression. John Mackovic was an aloof and arrogant "aristocrat" and never embraced or developed Texas ties (in regard to being the head coach at UT). His Dallas Cowboy stint didn't figure in to the college scene. Somebody told Mack Brown, upon his hire, his first telephone call needed to be to the THSCA president to offer his support, become buds with Darrell Royal and Texas HS coaches and be a Longhorn from the git-go. If he isn't totally into it, he is a dang good actor. Of course, with his salary and incentives, I could be a pretty convincing Longhorn, too.

I will say it again. Recruiters do not recruit, the university/football programs does the recruiting. Recruiters are just figure heads in the process. We need someone with Texas ties, because we have to start to build a program from the ground up. We have went at this all wrong from the start. There are enough players in Texas for us to win CUSA. Hell, half the teams that beat us had a host of players from Texas. That is why players like JWill get so pissed, because he kicked those kids [deleted] in HS. Our guy is Michael Haywood, but it ain't happening. Haywood, from Houston was the running backs coach at UT (Cedric Benson) and was one of the recruiters at UT. Has Texas ties and connections throughout the HS ranks. The BB program is 5-7 years away from a winning team. Seven freshmen and Bamba. How much longer can we continue with this smoke screen process.

They coached at SMU, not the same thing.

I keep thinking of Franchione's first press conference introducing him as the new Aggie coach. I think that's the most disingenuous "howdy" I've ever heard. Funny that he essentially took the same route as Rice HC David Bailiff, only with stopovers at UNM & TCU mixed in.

He should have had his tonsils and adenoids removed when he was 5. His "howdy" sounded like Minnie Pearl. He's a beating in an interview with more than a one word answer.
