Orsini said the he was going to hire the best coach available in America. I heard him say this twice on tv. He may not have said WOW but he definitely implied it.

He tries to hide it, but he is not a good person and has a past that should eliminate him under Turner's previous comments about not wanting people with baggage. There is more to just the letter at A & M, and there is more to how he left Alabama and the things he tried to pull things there to skirt the NCAA. Hope we can do much better than him.

SA, I agree. Fran snuck out in the middle of the night leaving unanswered questions in Tuscaloosa. His recent actions with the "newsletter" is just another chink in the armor.

If the quality of Fran is all we can get for $1M+ in ncaa FB, we need to convert Ford into a baseball field and change sports all together.

NO NO No Franchione had nothing to do with Alabama's probation-where do you guys get this. All the violations pre-date Franchione-one of the reasons he was unhappy at Alabama is because the situation was not fully disclosed to him

I would definitely be for baseball at Ford or elsewhere, and would gladly donate towards a baseball program if ever asked.

I could live with Fran, especially if he brings 7-9 wins a year!

No matter who we hire, they will have some negative aspects.

Ugh...I hate those 3 words together. I have to listen to some doofuses at work that sit near me talk about that stuff. It's a wonder they have spouses.

"Best available coach in America" and "WOW" are totally different things. Terry Bowden would certainly be a "WOW" hire, but is probably not close to being the best available coach in America.

Dan McCarney is an excellent coach, who got Iowa State into the Big 12 mix consistenly.

As interesting, State of Iowa would be returning the favor of letting Hayden Fry end up in Iowa City. Great symmetry.

Knuckle I think we have a disagreement where I am right and you are wrong. Thanks for understanding.

As for Orsini's statement I think--to put words in his mouth--that he meant the best coach available to SMU. Les Miles prior to Saturday is considered the best coach available but not to SMU. So we are left with the ? who is the best coach available to SMU? Schotenheimer? Fran? Bowden? Mason? I can be happy with practically any prior HC who has shown an ability to win and recruit. Some assistants (Stoops, Mangino, Leach etc) work out fine but after our last experience I think we have to go with a HC.

The first part is true - he was not responsible for the sanctions. The second part is untrue. He was completely aware and chose to come anyway. Most Bama fans were upset by the way that he left. No word to the team - nothing. Just left. That's why they hate him - and I can assure you - they hate him.

Alabama is going to hate the current guy before it's all over. I'm sure they are less than pleased today.

I don't think that's true. Certainly they aren't happy with what transpired since the LSU game, but from the people that I talk to they seem to be pretty docile still. They were excited to get him and they think he's doing the right thing. I think most of them realize that Shula left a program that had some talent, but was very soft. Saban is beating the softness out of them. Alabama fans are not usually reasonable, but I think they are trying to be in this instance.
